Shopping in port

You didn't mention "which" port, but normally they do.  For myself, I generally take CASH, and don't have a problem. it is much easier to use when purchasing items from vendors, etc.  If you don't have cash, you can go to the Purser's Desk, and they will give it to you off of your credit card.

The U.S.Dollar is King on this Western side of the Atlantic!

Everyone I know on these Carib. islands has a small stash at home!

It's that desirable: we don't turn it in to the Banks....

Anyone refusing to accept it should be viewed with a bit of suspicion

and not worth conducting business with?

Reading here tells me that people are exchanging US to Cuban .  What are your ports of call ?

That's true.  They will not take US currency and you can't use credit cards in Cuba.  There is a bank right after customs that you exchange your US dollars to CUCs.  That's the only port out of the twelve cruises we've taken where they didn't accept US currency.
