One afternoon in South Beach - What to do?

We are getting in to Miami around noon on a Friday for a Saturday cruise.  We are planning on a Cuban restaurant for lunch, but after that we're pretty wide open.  Any recommendations for fun, but not crazy expensive dinner?  Anything or anywhere we should be sure not to miss?  We will be staying toward the southern end of South Beach.  We are taking our daughter and her fiance, both 29, so we're open for just about anything.  Thanks!

If you are a big cruiser, going to South Point Park, having a drink at Smith and Wollenskys and watching the Friday afternoon ships depart from Port Miami is pretty good. 

 

If you want to stick to South Beach for food, I like to recommend Yardbrid (get reservations) prices are moderate/high but food is great, nice atmosphere and it is right off Lincoln Road, which is a great place to walk down after dinner. 

 

I don't know the Miami Beach Cuban places much. I am sure someone else will chime in. There are two Havana 1957 restaurants that are good though. 

 

A lot of people want to see Ocean Drive. Don't have dinner/lunch there, but you can enjoy the buildings, see the beach and atmosphere. A drink at the Clevelander and/or Wet Willies I would do though. 

 

Anything specific you had in mind?

There are actually three Havana 1957's in South Beach; Espanola Way (my favorite), Lincoln Road (way too small but a lot of outdoor seating), and Ocean Drive.  Really good, reasonable Cuban.

 

I love Smith & Wollensky but very expensive.  Go outside to the back bar for amazing views.

News Cafe

 

While they are cleaning it up, stay away from Ocean Drive Restaurants not named, Front Porch, Larios, Fridays, H1957, and News Cafe.

 

Keep in mind South Beach prices are Midtown Manhattan expensive.

 

The Miami Design Preservation does a great walking tour.

 

Honestly, you can't beat the people watching.
