mabkcruisers Posted February 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2019 1. Looking for a precruise hotels near LAX- arriving at midnight the night before so we just need a place to sleep. 2. Also need recommendations for shuttle service to the port- we assume we will use hotel shuttle to return to LAX in the morning for the best options. Thanks for your help! My best advice is, even arriving late, to take a shuttle (Super Shuttle, Prime Time Shuttle or others) or, better yet, an Uber directly to a hotel in the port area (Long Beach if Carnival, San Pedro if anyone else). Traffic will be at it's lightest and you'll be safely ensconced near the port with the ability to just "sleep in" in the morning knowing you are very close to the pier. If San Pedro, stay at the Crowne Plaza or Doubletree. If Long Beach, try the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric at the Pike, Renaissance, Westin, Maya Doubletree, Residence Inn Downtown or the Hilton. If you really must stay near LAX, there are several generic chain hotels along Century Blvd. between the airport entrance and Aviation Blvd. Taking any hotel shuttle back to the airport and then waiting for a shuttle service there will take you lots of extra time...and frustration. You might, instead, consider an Uber straight from the hotel to the port.
mabkcruisers Posted February 10, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted February 10, 2019 Thank you so much! This is really helpful. Hadn’t considered staying in the port area with such a late arrival. We are on the Emerald for a 3 night coastal too!
riffatsea Posted February 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2019 There is no reason to shuttle back to the airport to get transportation to the cruise port unless you are planning to use the cruise line transportation. We hate waiting for those buses so we'd prefer to either go directly to a hotel near the port( Crowne Plaza or Doubletree have shuttles to the port) or use uber/lyft from the LAX hotel. Depending on the day of the week getting to the port in the AM could have traffic issues.

We were planning to arrange for our own shuttle (learned that after using the cruise line buses a few too many times). We are now looking at San Pedro hotels instead for when we arrive. ATSEAMYLIFE Posted February 10, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2019 I totally agree to just go down to the port area and spend the night. Better to spend a few extra minutes at midnight driving down than a few extra hours in the morning.
DAllenTCY Posted February 18, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2019 The Doubletree in San Pedro is quite nice. In Long Beach, I've stayed at the Hyatt, and you can get a room with a view of the dock. David
CoW mAn Posted February 19, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2019 1. There's a lot of good places near LAX that you can get for a pretty good price like the Westin, the Hilton, or the Renaissance 2. You've got the right idea - SuperShuttle or PrimeTime is usually the best bet. Here's a breakdown of the costs and how to manage it...
