j - Thank you for posting this, but I would not have further dignified the detractors as it is obvious that there is no knowledge of what it takes to achieve such a status OR such a person, different from them, can undergo the rigor and be one of the best at their chosen profession.

bon voyage

Good Point Bo

I know I can only speak from my own experience, but when Captain Kate was brought on in 2015 I was surprised, and although I never have sailed with her, her peers unanimously speak highly of her. I have spoken with three other Masters and two Staff Captains (both qualified as Masters obviously), and all five told me the same thing.

She earned her position, it wasn't done for  public relations or any other reason, other than she was the best qualified person for the job. If anyone knows the facts they do, not us.

So as I gather from many replies to my item "loyalty to the company or loyalty by the company" no longer matter. Perhaps that explains the deterioration in consideration and service by the people of this modern generation.  I rest my case.

Of course 'loyalty' to/from The Company (no matter which one it is) does matter, yet also, at least here in the US, many of us do value more 'diversity' overall than loyalty to one (1) group of individuals, as quaint as it is. Especially for small and smallish companies.

I Am sure there will be some who disagree with my POV on this, which is fine, yet personally I find a wide array of faces and personalities throughout the chain of command and on-board ships I sail very welcoming.

The 'Old World' way of sailing did have its' place, now that we or at least most of us have moved forward and have greater expectations that anyone who is competent to serve in such capacities, can and will have the opportunity to do so regardless of their background or etc., etc., etc..

bon voyage

Please "unrest" that case.  The level of service and abundance of consideration by very young crew member on the Azamara Quest recently were above and beyond the norm.  The same qualities and concerns exhibited by Captain Kate and her crew were on display on the Equinox as well.  It's a matter of leadership as the Senior Officers set the tone.  Treat people properly and they will be loyal. Expect consideration because of your "loyalty" and that plus $6 will get you a coffee from the Cafe Al Bacio.

Oh, darn, now I'm doubly disappointed we are on the June 1st sailing opposed to the June 8th.  The Cake Boss means there would have been good cake!  LOL.  I'm a lover of buttercream and have yet to find a decent version on a cruise ship.  Most cruise cake is just too fancy for me

Well to set the record straight. My background: Zenith with Celebrity Cruises, 62 cruises with Celebrity, cruised on 15 other cruise lines. Eight years service with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 27 years as an airline pilot retiring after more then seven years flying the B747 often with 400 plus passengers. I know what loyalty means and I know how an effective crew work.  Sad to say but if you think Celebrity is great now you should have experienced it when it was the "Best Premium cruise line in the world".  Perhaps one last question. Why is the Edge giving away free booze in the casino ?

I can only say that I remember when I only flew Pan Am, upper deck at that....

Alas, there are cycles in business and service, which one must acknowledge. I do not know of any business, at the moment, which was great at one point in its' life cycle that has or had not had down times when service and response was in the dumps. They stuck with it and improved or re-invented themselves to become or head towards greatness again.

Some customers stay, some leave while the business tries to regain its' footing. Fortunately there are several other cruise lines, if the current one is not doing anything that we want or like for them to do.

bon voyage

My post was not to diminish Capt. Kate. I''m totally sure that she is completely qualified, and am disappointed she will not be our captain on the Equinox in December. What I meant, and , I guess was misunderstood,, was that Edge needs all the help it can get from Celebrity, and adding her might ease some of the reviews, which have been horrible on CC.

Yes Celebrity needs her to bring more revenues to the company as so many customers like to sail with her.
