Betty in Cozumel Posted February 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We are sailing in 2 weeks from Shanghai to Hong Kong. China, Taiwan, Manila and Hong Kong are in one time zone. South Korea and Japan are in another. Do I have to switch my watch back and forth? Or is their a "ship's time" that we need to stay on at all times so we don't miss the boat? Literally. 🙂
GeezLouise1 Posted February 20, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We just disembarked Maasdam in Singapore after visiting the Indian Ocean. There were quite a few time zones and the ship changed time with them all. You will be switching your watch back and forth. And back and forth 😉

And back and forth Think how hard it must be on the crew! Usually the time changes occur at night, but I recall one report of the change happening at 13:00! Maybe it was an experiment that didn't work out well, because I only heard of it that one time.
Rare ski ww Posted February 20, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We've had time changes during the day but only on sea days.
SeaDog-46 Posted February 20, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Ships always follow local time. Anything else would lead to chaos.
TAD2005 Posted February 20, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2019 When you are on a shore excursion, local time is followed by tour operators, taxis, and everyone else. There would be a lot of people missing the ship's sailing if the ship time was different than the local time.
