cnjoy26 Posted February 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2019 I’m sailing out in two weeks and have two last minute questions! 1) If you have a cash onboard account, can you pay that at the end with a debit card? Or do you need physical cash? If so, are there atms on the ship? Going on freedom of the seas. 2) Going to st Thomas, Antigua, st Lucia, Barbados and st Maarten. Are credit cards safe to use at these ports? you guys are the best! Thank you!!!
Merion_Mom Posted February 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2019 1. Yes, you can pay with a debit card at the end of the cruise. There are ATMS. They charge large fees. They are often broken . With a cash account on your SeaPass, you can get cash in the casino without the usual 5% fee. Well, they'll give you chips or a voucher for the slots, but you can just stick the voucher in and cash out and cash the voucher. 😄 2. Yes. Some people say that they have one low-limit credit card that they use on the island, so that even if something goes wrong, not much can be fraudulently charged on it. I'm not that paranoid, and just use my card when I feel like it. And two weeks isn't last minute! 😄
Coralc Posted February 23, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2019 You can pay off your cash account the night before the cruise ends in your choice of funding. Credit Card/Debit Card/Cash, whichever you prefer. Your credit cards may be *relatively* safe to use at ports. I don't think that anyone can guarantee that. We prefer to use cash at ports if possible. And check your cards to make sure that you don't have a 3% foreign transaction fee added to your purchases by your credit card provider.
