Voom in Alaska (Ovation)

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Forgive me if this is a repeat connection but my search didn't find a direct answer.  Can anyone advise how well Voom works on Ovation in the Alaska inside straight cruises?  I need be connected for work and have become quite spoiled by my Voom connection in the Caribbean.

Thanks,

J.

Ovation has never been to Alaska, which might explain why you were not able to find any info.

O3B performance deteriorates in upper latitudes so while it may work well in Seattle, VOOM may get iffier by the time you get to Juneau.

It worked great on our Australia/NZ cruise in Jan. There was one day when were travelling the southern sounds where it was a bit spotty but overall it was  great. I was really surprised how good it worked anywhere on the ship. I assume that the challenges in the Northern Latitudes will be similar to those we had in the far southern latitudes so hopefully it will work well during your cruise.

On Radiance sailing in the tighter inside passage signal was hard to get at times. Only time will tell if Ovation has them same issue.

Does Radiance have the O3 satellite upgrade?  Thanks.

Likely based on its larger size (we were on Ovation in Sydney in December), the Inner Passage route will be slightly tweaked compared to Radiance. Our Radiance cruise a few years ago was a nice round trip to the Inner Passage and featured a run up a fjord to Sawyer Glacier. Ovation would not fit that same path...Radiance was just able to make it.
