Cruising out of New Orleans

  My wife and I are taking a cruise out of New Orleans in a couple of weeks, how long after leaving port does the casino open? I know it takes several hours to go down the Mississippi river before reaching the Gulf so just curious.

Isn't gambling legal in Louisiana?

The casino opens shortly after leaving the dock.  One of the nice things about sailing out of NOLA, gambling is legal so they don't have to wait until reaching international waters to open the casino.

It takes about 7-8 hours to reach the Gulf from New Orleans.  Very interesting scenery from Mississippi River life to the oil fields.  Sounds like the casino may be calling you though.  Be aware that the ship will make some sharp turns going down the river which can cause motion sickness with some people, especially if they are inside in the casino or at a show.

On the main "boards" page there is a category for North American Departures - then go to Gulf Coast Departures and there is a lot of info on sailing out of NOLA.

Think it opens not long after the ship departs from NOLA.

Go to the Category "Home America Homeports", then "Gulf Coast Departures."  The top thread called "want MORE information about New Orleans" if you open that thread there is a link to go to a board/thread just about New Orleans.

Harrah's Casino is about a 10 minute walk from the port if you need a gambling fix that bad.
