Watching on BBC, it appears that Notre Dame is experiencing a huge fire right now... the tall spire is collapsing.  Visited there for the first time after a Celebrity cruise a few years ago...  this is so sad :(

Gosh, felt the same as many of you when I saw this on TV. 

Guess we'll learn more later on the cause ....

Such a tragedy!  We have been there and it's so beautiful.  My condolences to the French people.

It looks like as horrible as it was, some of the stained glass (the big Rose window) survived, as well as the pews & the altarpiece, pretty amazing considering.  

 

My heart goes out to the French people, but it will be incredible to watch them rebuild.

President Macron just announced it will be rebuilt in 5 years. We are lucky that we can have two vacation of 4 days in Spring and Autumn in Paris.....living in Europe that is so easy to do.

A politician's  promise  Easily made, easily broken,  to quote Mary Poppins. Although I think he's  in ernest, he's not an expert,  and no expert would advance that kind of target time without a lot more investigation.  It would take a miracle to complete reconstruction and restoration in so short a time- likely double that if more structural issues arise from the ongoing inspections. It will be done when it's done, and I sincerely hope I can see it again in my lifetime.
