kuddles14 Posted April 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2019 We are going to be in Rome a couple of days pre-cruise in September. We have arranged a tour guide for the day. He is going to be getting us our skip the line tickets for the Coliseum and is arranging for a private tour guide for inside the Coliseum. He has asked us if we would like a private guide for the Forum and Palatine Hill. Would this be a good move or should we do those on our own? Thank you in advance for your help. CruiserBruce Posted April 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2019 Personally, don't think you need one, but one always adds value. I guess it depends on how deep a knowledge base you want to get.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted April 21, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2019 (edited) I find the Colosseum much easier to understand without a guide than the Forum or Palatine Hill. There is very little signage at either site, and they both represent a number of different periods and different phases of buildings and monuments. Whereas the Colosseum is a single building built in a single era and used for a single purpose. But Cruiser Bruce is right to an extent -- a lot depends on your own interests.
