Thanks for the tip, DH and I will look into this.  Is there a charge for the app or to the government?

No charges. Free app; no usage charge. Just fill out all the usual customs declaration stuff, and you'll get a barcode (if I'm recalling correctly) that is scanned by the customs agent. There will be a line for people using Mobile Passport - don't recall exactly how it's labeled - just ask the agents directing people as you enter the queues.

Looks like there is an annual charge of $15 if you want to be able to scan your passport info into your phone rather than enter it by hand.  https://mobilepassport.us/

Hadn't heard anything about Mobile Passport Plus.
Unless they've made the 'plus' version the only option, you don't need it. It was easy to enter all the info into the app while on the plane - you'll have plenty of time [emoji6]
Also, it looks like it says first 7 days free for the plus version, which could mean your return flight. Then just cancel the subscription.

Global Entry is a hassle to get but it does make things faster.
