Are these pictures from right by the ship? It almost looks like you can walk down that gang plank and there's a walking trail right at the end? Or is this from an excursion somewhere? I'd LOVE to be able to step off the ship and have a little hiking trail just feet away. My trip will stop in Skagway and Juneau.

Hoopster95 Posted May 17, 2019 Author #280 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) For those of you wondering about entertainment on Ovation this summer, some of you may know I do like the Broadway shows and have reported on them in the past on my reviews... This is the best cast of singers and dancers, and the best new RCL production show I have seen in a very long time: ”The Beautiful Dream” Super professional. The dancers all had an edge. So very fortunate to have this cast... every singer is excellent and could be a #1 on any other ship. And the sets and story line were just as awesome. Standing O. Those of you sailing Ovation this summer DO NOT miss this show. Edited May 17, 2019 by Hoopster95

We sailed her in Sydney to New Zealand this past December, and got a good appreciation for the ship and its features (photos in this thread show a number of them). What are key points about Ovation is that there are a number of enclosed areas to control temps/weather on the outside...intended in the ship's design. That also includes a good amount of viewing area (windows/glass). As for Alaska itself - we did that a few years ago in 2014...and it's fair to see it is a "bucket list" destination. We have hundreds of photos & some video - and no photos can do justice to the viewing experience in person. If anyone has the opportunity and/or plans to see Alaska...by all means do it. That’s exactly what I told him! I’m also planning to show him Hoopster’s pictures of the views from the solarium. 😀
Hoopster95 Posted May 17, 2019 Author #283 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) End of whale watch, back to Hoonah There’s nothing in Hoonah... get to the outdoors away from port to see aome real Alaska or enjoy the man-made area for tourists at port Edited May 17, 2019 by Hoopster95
Rare perfect match Posted May 17, 2019 #284 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) AlanF65, what was the whale watching excursion you were on? I’m so optimistic about booking Alaska that I’m taking notes now! Well, actually, I’ve been taking notes on Alaska for a while, but I’m being a bit more detailed in my notes now! Royal excursion, or private? I loved the trapeze pics and video! I’d love to try it myself, but I’m not so sure how my replacement knees and hips would like doing trapeze. I’ll have to ask my orthopedic surgeon if he will ok it. So far the only thing he doesn’t want me doing is running. Since I’ve never loved running, I’m fine with that restriction! He loves seeing the pictures of the rest of the things I do.

I came back onboard around 3:30 and grabbed a salad at Cafe Two70. It was 80% full of cruisers... way more popular than any Viking Crown I have ever seen during mid-day non-prime time. I went and sat at the only available empty seat at the glass windows farthest aft. Weather has turned to gray and rain, so these photos will not do the view justice. I’ll try to take more on another great day for you. Many thanks. Awesome view.
Rare BecciBoo Posted May 17, 2019 #287 Share Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) I love me some fried Halibut! And chowder too. The food porn is killin' me man! Not to mention the wildlife. Makes me want to book another. We thought about Ovation when she was first announced but we'd already committed to Symphony and The Edge. This is tempting, especially adding Sitka to the Itin! BTW U can't open any of your vids, says it's missing the codec. Am I just clueless? Edited May 17, 2019 by BecciBoo
er345 Posted May 17, 2019 #288 Share Posted May 17, 2019 Hoopster, thank you so much for the beautiful pictures! And we have been curious about the entertainment so I’m happy to hear about the new show. I love the steampunk vibe. I’m glad there is something else worth seeing in addition to Pixels.

There is a great that trail hugs the shore. The red line is roughly where one of the trails are. They are in great condition. The green arrow is where the ship docks. The pier wasn’t there for this picture from Google Earth. Edited May 17, 2019 by A&L_Ont

Would love to show you photos however the internet is so very bad, that for the first time in my RCL “career” I’m going down to GS to hopefully get some kind of credit. Both my photo posts yesterday (whales) took over an hour to load. I may have to leave his thread alone until we get back home at this rate and do a proper review as I normally have done at home. We’ll see right now I’m at 35 minutes trying to load 6 photos from yesterday’s bear watch... only 2 got loaded then I got an error... internet is a joke, and understandably up here, but don’t make me pay $200+ for it when it doesn’t exist. drusierdmd Posted May 17, 2019 #298 Share Posted May 17, 2019 Where is this trail? Thanks for the great thread and review.Icy strait...literally 10 steps from where it docks. Beautiful safe trail that runs along the water then cuts into the forest. Unfortunately it's only about a 15min walk. LadyBeBop Posted May 17, 2019 #299 Share Posted May 17, 2019 Couple of questions. 1. I’m assuming no reservations for The Beautiful Dream. How soon before the show must we arrive to get fairly decent seats? 2. I’m not getting Internet. We pay for unlimited data for our smartphones on ATT. I’m assuming that won’t work on the ship. (Or will it sailing the Alaskan straits?) How is data coverage in port? I’m assuming fairly good in Sitka and Skagway. And I’m assuming very good in Juneau, the capital. Hoonah Adventure Tours re the trapeze, 220lb weight limit. You’ll have to sign waiver as well. 1 hour ago, vrock said: I would love to see any photos of diamond lounge. Thank you. Thanks again for the great information and photos. As Biker says, yes. However the 2nd production show is supposedly very racy, “in your face sexual in nature” per the guy beside me in the theatre who had travelled all the way from Sydney and has seen both shows 3 times Edited May 17, 2019 by Hoopster95 2
