DKNE Posted June 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2019 Looking for suggestions for a hotel that is near a mall, in Charleston. Not necessarily near the port (within 1/2 hr). Last time we stayed, we were at the Springhill Mariott Riverview downtown. Not impressed by that hotel at all. Thanks 🙂

Thanks 🙂 To my knowledge there are no True malls in historic downtown Charleston. For lots of name brand stores, you would have to rent a car and go over the Ravenel Bridge to Mt. Pleasant. These stores would be like TJ Maxx, Harris Teeter, Hobby Lobby (not on Sunday). I'm sure there are Belks' and other Southern stores. We stayed at the Charleston Place (parking garage is extra). It is right in the heart of beautiful historic Charleston. The Craft Market, Horse & Buggy carriages are just a block away. One block back is their main shopping street with lots of boutiques. We live in SC but 2 hours away, so don't go into the city often.
DKNE Posted June 3, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted June 3, 2019 Thank you Nanatravel. We are driving to the port, so having a car will not be a problem.

Yes- Mount Pleasant Town Center is a large shopping center anchored by Belk, which is actually in two buildings, as they moved the entire mens department to a different space a few years ago. Lots of other stores, a movie theater and a number of restaurants at Town Center as well. It is not a mall per se, as it is not enclosed, but is pedestrian friendly. There are a several hotels adjacent to it that you can walk to/from, including a Hampton Inn, a Comfort Suites, and a Residence Inn. If you are driving, there are two other shopping centers within a 5 min drive of Town Center: The Shoppes at Seaside Farms anchored by Target plus a number of smaller shops, several restaurants and a Homewood Suites, and Six Mile Marketplace, with Hobby Lobby and a few smaller shops and restaurants. There are also Harris Teeter grocery stores at both of the two latter ones I listed. Oh, and Wando Crossing is within 5 min of Town Center and is anchored by WalMart, Office Depot, TJMaxx, Marshalls/Homegoods and Michael's.
TruckerDave Posted June 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) There is also Tanger Outlets over here by the airport/arena/convention center. Lots of shopping and places to eat. Plus a bunch of hotels. Edited June 4, 2019 by TruckerDave

It's also just 5 min from the airport so if flying in the day before you are practically there when you land. Adjacent to Tanger is a super Walmart and a Sam's Club if you need a general variety store/grocery items. It's right off I-26 as well, so easy to get downtown to the cruise port the next day via cab or Uber. Either Mt. P Town Center area or Tanger area in N. Charleston would seem to fit the bill here.
