dongordon Posted June 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2019 It has been many years since I cruised on Carnival and I remember it was difficult to get a table for 2. Looking at taking a cruise on the Sunrise out of NYC in September 2020. Has that changed? Also, does Carnival offer any unlimited Alcoholic Beverage packages? I usually sign up for these on NCL cruises.
jmcathome Posted June 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2019 There are tables for two do not know how difficult they are in main dining room. Usually on anytime they would ask when you went i, They do have what is called unlimited alcohol program, but it is restricted to 18 drinks I think. Cannot order more than one a a time. livingthedream1 Posted June 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 7, 2019 Cheers program is $51.95 per day if ordered before you go. I believe its $53.95 if bought on the ship. Its limited to 15 drinks a day and all persons over 18 have to purchase if in the same cabin. Bottled waters, soda, specialty coffees and energy drinks are included as well. There is however a cap of $20 per drink and you can only order one drink at a time within a 5 minute period. We do YTD and have never had a problem asking for a table for 2. They will ask if you want to sit with others just say no.

Sorry you are right I do not know why I was thinking 18. It is cheaper to purchase in advance and yes 18 % is added.

It's also interesting that when sailing from NY, you can't purchase the Cheers package until Day Two. Mike 9 hours ago, dongordon said:

We are looking at this cruise for September 2020 for our anniversary. Can you purchase the drink package in advance....online? We haven't been on Carnival in years. Do they still have formal nights where you have to dress up with a suit or a sports jacket. I switched to NCL because of that! I like to be casual throughout the cruise. I'll be anxious to hear your review and comparisons with NCL. Don

I believe you save 5% by doing that. There is no longer a formal night where you are expected to dress up. They do have Elegant Nights. Here's the suggested dress code for those evenings: Cruise Elegant Gentlemen: elegant dress pants, shirts, sports jackets as well as suits, ties and tuxedos. Ladies: cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts, blouses and evening gowns. Please no shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops, bathing clothes, jeans, cut-off jeans, sportswear and baseball caps. We cruised on the Destiny with our daughters about 15 years ago. Liked the ship then and pretty sure I'll enjoy the new version as well. Just left a message with my TA to call me back to book! Rare mizLORInj Posted June 10, 2019 #19 Share Posted June 10, 2019 We were on Sunrise a couple weeks ago and we had Your Time dining. Ate dinner in the dining room once and had a table for 2. There were many other tables of two people. We also had a table for 2 at seaday brunch.
Rare mexicobob Posted June 10, 2019 #20 Share Posted June 10, 2019 Many tables for two on every ship for Your Time Dining. Be aware that in most cases the tables on either side of you are literally inches from your table...……..Technically, you are not sitting at the same table and can ignore each other. In reality you are sitting with other people though, which can be a good thing. Most people are nice.
dongordon Posted June 10, 2019 Author #21 Share Posted June 10, 2019 Thank you everyone for your input. We will be looking forward to cruising on Carnival again after so many years on NCL. Cruising out of NYC for us is a must. Hoping that Carnival will perhaps start sailing out of NYC on some long cruises to the Caribbean in the upcoming winters. Don I sailed on the Carnival Splendor when she did the year round cruising. The first sea day and the last sea day was cool and windy. In January the ports were Port Canarval, Freeport and Nassau. Pricing was very very cheap and the ship did not had sold out crowding feature most ships get. Edited June 10, 2019 by shof515

I'm not surprised the ship did not sell out and pricing was "very very cheap." Those are not the best ports. I don't mind the bad weather on the two days at sea when on a longer cruise, but not worth it on a 7 day cruise. Don
