Rare PandaBear62 Posted June 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2019 We just boarded the Royal Princess. What a beautiful ship! We are traveling my my BFF and her DH. Both guys are retiring. We were on board about 11:30 and had lunch. My BFF and I went to the Sanctuary and booked all day for Glacier Bay. We booked a cabana and two loungers for the 4 of us. we then went to the spa. BFF booked acupuncture (she does it on each cruise-helps her with seasickness) and we both booked the Enclave all week ($150) Looking forward to a great cruise!!
LoriPhil Posted June 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2019 Congratulations on your cruise and exploring the Royal. I loved the Enclave experience, as it's open from morning to later in the evening (though you are missing the super scenery). Alaska is wonderful - have a great cruise and I'm looking forward to hearing more about your adventures!

werderburg Posted June 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2019 Hope sail away was great! I saw this sailing had an earlier departure time due to tides and the ship’s size. Could you confirm what path you all ultimately take past Vancouver island?

They are going around Vancouver Island, too. What a bummer.
Rare PandaBear62 Posted June 9, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted June 9, 2019 I believe we sailed around Vancouver Island. Of course, we were at dinner, then at our room for a Quick nap before heading to the show. So not looking at scenery. No no dining room menus, butdid eat at Crown Grill (gift from our kids)

milolii Posted June 9, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2019 Thanks for the information. This is great! Much appreciated. Did you head straight to the Sanctuary after boarding or lunch first? Congratulations on the retirements.
ashpam Posted June 9, 2019 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2019 Can't wait to hear about your experience in the Sanctuary during Glacier Bay. We're thinking of doing that as well for our upcoming cruise.

The few loungers in the very front were taken but there were a bunch left. It was obvious that the Glacier Bay day was the most popular. We were informed by staff that 80 people are booked for the Enclave for the cruise.

BarbinMich Posted June 9, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 9, 2019 I look forward to your photos from inside the Sanctuary. Personally, it doesn't seem to be the best place from which to take photos of the glaciers. We were last in GB on May 18, 2014 on the Star and it was pretty darn cool/cold on the promenade deck and a cloudy day. So I don't know how comfortable it will be that far forward and that high on the ship. Plus you will be taking photos through the glass "walls". Hopefully, your weather will be warmer and you'll have a sunny day.

My pictures also tend to be more of the people having the experience rather than all the sightseeing. Not good or bad, just different strokes for different folks. Dh, on the other hand, can provide info for everyone about the picture taking. So I’ll pass on his thoughts.

Rare PandaBear62 Posted June 13, 2019 Author #23 Share Posted June 13, 2019 Glacier Bay (Sanctuary) So we booked the Sanctuary for 4 adults for Glacier Bay day. The cost for a lounger is $60 for the day. A cabana for 2 was $210. It was suggested to us that we book 1 cabana abd then 2 loungers in front if it which would save some money. So thats what we did. So the cost was about $175 per couple for the day. It appeared that the Sanctuary was full, but never felt crowded. It was very well staffed. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate was available all day. There were breakfast and lunch items available but you could also get food from other parts of the ship and bring it in. There were conversation areas as well that were just open extra seating and not assigned. It opened quite early. I was there at 7am and it was cold! We had beautiful sun from about 10-1. Around 1 we lost the sun abd it grew colder. Havibg the cabana was great because it really sheltered you from the wind.

Rare PandaBear62 Posted June 13, 2019 Author #25 Share Posted June 13, 2019 So apparently by booking a cabana you can choose extra beverages. We chose 2 bottles of wine. They could be up to a value of $41 each.
