Dani24 Posted June 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2019 My daughter has been collecting Junior Ranger badges from the National Parks. I'm hoping to get her a couple in Alaska as well. I am aware of the options from Juneau (but am not sure we'll make it to Mendenhall this time due to a conflicting excursion). And we are visiting Haines instead of Skagway (with an excursion in Haines) so I don't think we'll be able to get anything there (unless someone knows of something in/near Haines). That leaves Ketchikan and Hubbard Glacier. It looks like there might be something we can request by mail for Hubbard -- has anyone done this? How did that work? For Ketchikan it looks like there may be something for the Tongass National Forest? We don't have any excursions booked there, so this might be a good option for us to do on our own. Anyone do this or something else in Ketchikan and get a Junior Ranger badge?
Mary Ellen1 Posted June 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2019 Are you going to Glacier Bay National Park? In my past experience, the Nat'l. Park Rangers board the ship, and set up a ranger station where, among other things, you can get a Junior Ranger badge while on the ship.
AlanF65 Posted June 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) The visitors center in Skagway has rangers giving talks, you might want to call there, may 30 minutes with shuttle, walk, plus time inside. https://www.nps.gov/klgo/learn/kidsyouth/jrac.htm https://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit/ranger-chats.htm https://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit/index.htm https://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit/visitorcenter.htm Edited June 12, 2019 by AlanF65

We are going to Hubbard instead.

We're doing the Kroeschel Wildlife Refuge, so we won't have time to take the ferry to Skagway. But if there's something reasonably accessible from Haines I can see if we can fit it in. Your family will just need to return to Alaska! :)
dfilpus Posted June 19, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2019 The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center in Ketchikan has a Junior Ranger Program. It is a museum administered by the United States Forest Service as part of the Tongass National Forest. They honor National Parks passes and provide wi-fi as part of the entry. It's across the street from the Lumberjack Show.
