Does anyone else feel that they were robbed by NCL

I spent an extreme amount of money to give my family the vacation of a lifetime. We had the Owner's Suite on the Joy in May   I saved for over a year and a half to get this cruise and was completely disappointed.  NCL could care less about my horrible experience.  Everything from horrible food to overcrowded and even the a/c which has to be constantly turned back own ( because it automatically shuts its self off after being on for an hour).  All I can say is stay away from this cruise line.  I have had much better experiences on Carnival and Royal Caribbean.    Cruise at your own risk.  You have been warned

I'm so sorry you had a disappointing experience.  I always try to find something positive to focus on even if awful things happened.  It's not fun to pay for a premium vacation and not feel you got your money's worth.  We've all been there.  Hope time will help you remember the good stuff.

@Charlesw1968 I have never encountered anything like what you describe, on any line. Was literally EVERY meal disappointing? Where did you eat onboard? Where do you eat on land that you enjoy the food (Ruth Chris, the Palm, Nobu, Koi)? Have you ever been on a mega ship before? Where did you feel crowded (the pool, the casino, the buffet, the Haven courtyard)? I see someone else explained about the A/C snowflake button. But did you really not say anything to your steward/butler the whole week about it?

I did some research and there are owner's suites on the Joy in the Haven:

Cool story, bro.  Then, did you find 5 dollars?

Funny, their website shows a haven deluxe owner's suite.

NCL Escape has a Deluxe Owner's Suite (H2) category AND an Owner's Suite (H3) category.

NCL Joy has a Deluxe Owner's Suite (H2) category but does NOT have an Owner's Suite (H3) category.

If I made a post stating that I had a horrible cruise on Escape in the "3 Bedroom Garden Villa (H1)", it would be just as incorrect as the OP's cruise on Joy in the Owner's Suite....because Escape does not have a 3 bedroom Garden Villa.

Sorry you were disappointed.  Did you call and report that your ac went off after an hour and they didn't fix it?  As far as overcrowded, you were on a ship that held 5,400 passengers, so I'm not sure what you expected.  You posted that NCL didn't care about your experience, what exactly did you want them to do...give you a refund?

So the argument is based on the fact that the OP did not use the word "deluxe" to describe his cabin??

There is no argument. There is just a statement of fact.

If someone books a Deluxe Spa Suite, it is not the same as a Spa Suite.

If someone buys the Premium Plus Beverage Package, it is not the same as the Premium Beverage Package.

If someone goes on a rant about their cruise, they should be able to correctly identify the stateroom type that they were in...or at the very least, not name a stateroom category that doesn't exist on the ship that they were on.

Argument in my book.

Looking at the Joy, the offer the following types of oceanview cabins:

  • Oceanview with Large Picture Window
  • Family Oceanview with Large Picture Window
  • Oceanview - Connecting Stateroom
  • Mid-Ship Oceanview with Large Picture Window
  • Sail Away Oceanview

Now, if someone said that they sailed on the Joy in an Oceanview cabin, your "facts" would allow you to argue and say that the Joy doesn't have an "Oceanview" cabin...yet, I'd still think it was petty.

Just because the OP didn't use the proper description and said Owner's Suite instead of Deluxe Owner's Suite doesn't mean that they needed to be corrected.

This.

I am always a bit confused by super-vague complaint posts or reviews.  The food was bad, the AC didn't work, it was crowded.  OK, none of that is helpful for anyone actually trying to find out information on NCL cruises (or any vacation).  Specifics are helpful.  Saying everything sucked may make you feel better but doesn't help the rest of us one bit.

OP did you try turning off the fireplace?

Seriously, children rarely appreciate luxury. If you want life long memories for them go to Walmart and by a tent, then pitch it in the forest for a few days. They’ll remember roughing it for the rest of their lives.

As others point out, just a quick chat with your steward would have helped you understand the thermostat.  As far as crowds, you were in the Haven.  That's one of the perks....away from the crowds.  You also got the "best seats in the house" for the main shows.

Did you talk to your concierge, or the restaurant manager(s) about the food?  They would have bent over backwards to fix whatever was wrong.

OP...specifically which restaurants served you bad food, and what was it?  What did the manager say when you pointed out your disappointment?

We're trying to help you on your next cruise, whichever line you might choose.

Exactly.

If the AC actually didn't work correctly (as opposed to not being used correctly), giving the actual stateroom number would be helpful.

Which Owner's Suite on deck 17 had the problem? (That one's for SeaShark) 😁

I fully understand having a horrible cruise.  I had one on the Carnival "Dream".  I swore I would never cruise again.  After a three year break I cruised again on Carnival and had a blast.  After sailing NCL several times I don't see myself going back to Carnival.  NCL IMHO just offers a better product.

I have to admit I really like the food on NCL and consider the food in the MDR so good there is no reason to eat in the specialty restaurants.

I wish you the best on your future cruises.

Since you want to be a stickler for being "factual"...

You say "NCL Escape", "NCL Joy", "Escape", and "Joy" (highlighted above for easy reference), yet NCL does not have a ship with any of these names. 😲

They have a ship named "Norwegian Joy" and another named "Norwegian Escape", but no ships at all with any of the four names that you used.

Not being argumentative, just stating a fact. 😜

I'll type "Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings LTD Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Joy" if it makes you happy....but it still won't be an Owner's Suite. :classic_tongue:

Do whatever you need to do to justify it to yourself. Everyone here knew what the OP was talking about...except for one person who decided to be argumentative just because the full formal room description was not used. Yeah...you dig right in...never ever admit your own error.

Sorry that you had a bad time. Sometimes expectations do not match the reality. Have you cruised before?

The only time I felt robbed was an $800 excursion to Atlantis in the Bahamas which turned out to

be one of the worst days of my life and not even exaggerating.

I've stayed at Atlantis... Needless to say, we felt robbed when the cruise ship came into port.  The resort became overcrowded.

Atlantis is super expense to begin with...

I agree, this is incredibly annoying.

Anyone know how to fix this to keep it from happening?

The OP has 3 posts. In the 2nd post (not this thread) was the following...

I was on the same cruise and like an  idiot I spent the extreme extra money and got the owners suite in the Haven. I totally feel that I was robbed by NCL.  I will never cruise with them again!!

... and the reply from dexddd was...

You actually had more than an OS, it was a Deluxe OS .

So it seems strange that even after being corrected, the OP made the same error.

The first post from the OP was...

I paid the extra money for the owners suite and had the worst cruise of my life    Stay away from NCL

...but that was a thread about Norwegian Dawn
