Explorer of the Sea Question

Recommended Posts

We do not smoke and try to avoid smoking areas. What are the rules for smoking and where are the smoking areas on Explorer of the Sea?   My wife was told since our ship departs from Southampton in England there is no smoking allowed in the Casino.  Good for us.  I am worried that people will smoke on their balcony and we won’t like being on our bakaciny. What  are the rules and do people follow them?  Thank you.

There is a large smoking lounge on deck 4 that is open for smoking 24 hours.  They also allow gambling in that area during more limited hours.

Outside, one side of decks 4, 11, and 12.

Good point!  No inside smoking at all.

Smoking is never allowed on any balcony.  If neighbors are smoking, you can call Security to take care of it.

There are monetary fines for each incident and the threat of being put off the ship if they continue to smoke in their room or on their balcony.  (This applies to e-cigs or vaping as well.)

I wish they would have no smoking in the casino or anywhere inside the ship. It's so gross that just walking through the casino causes our clothes and hair to smell like smoke.

Has anyone been on the Explorer recently? Is it is good condition? Some of the reviews are mixed and very critical.

Smoke free ship (I wish) but see Carnival Paradise. Maybe time for some company to try again??

rates would certainly be higher, so would enough book fares?

Cruising is just starting to be popular with cultures that smoke at higher levels, and the companies want those folks money too.

Just got got off the Explorer last week. She is in good shape.  We had a great time. No smoking anywhere inside the ship. Loved it. Wouldn’t hesitate to book it again.

I was on her in March out of Sydney AU.

My biggest problem with the ship is that one of the smoking areas is right alongside the pool and also directly adjacent to where you enter the Windjammer. So if the automatic doors on that side had recently opened when you were walking into WJ the whole entry stank.

And in effect one whole side of the only pool available to families stank.

They should’ve made it one side of the adult pool only, which would also move it away from the Windjammer.

Great! Thank you for your quick response. Nice to know that there is no smoking anywhere in the ship...casino included?

Correct.  When RC sails out of the UK or Australia, there is no smoking inside, including the casino.

Correct, the casino becomes the 24-hour indoor smoking lounge.

There is that small "cigar club" place ( l forget it's proper name) just outside the Star Lounge, as the only internal smokers place.

That's the Connoisseur Club, and those are being removed at the next dry dock.

Does anyone happen to know whether they're on the port or starboard side of decks 11 and 12, and whether it's forward or aft of the running track on 12? I understand why they're not labeled on the deck plans, but it'd be helpful if they were. Thank you!

If you stand with your back to the Windjammer the smoking side is on the left.

I have still not figured out which is port or starboard yet, sorry.

That's the port side if you are facing the front of the ship.
