Bluenoser Posted July 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2019 Hi all: We are doing the Costa Fortuna Sept 13 to 20 this year. The ship arives back in port at 9 a.m. We are looking at a flight that leaves Genoa at 10:55 a.m. I know the airport is very close to the cruise port. We will have minimal luggage so can carry off our own bags. Has anyone booked an early departing flight like this before? Thanks for any advice. tenpin Posted July 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2019 Wow that is going to be tight, transfer time on a good day is roughly thirty minutes & your departure date is a Friday, docking at 9.00am means you can't get off until 9.30. On the plus side docking in Savona which is Costas home port is usually earlier than stated, do not leave luggage outside your cabin the night before but take it with you or it may not be in luggage hall when you de-bark. Inform reception of your early flight time the day before. We normally have a 11.15 flight from Genoa and always got there early, but certainly will depend on traffic that day. Good luck & have a great cruise.
Dancer Bob Posted July 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2019 If you're travelling on non-EU passports, that's another factor to consider. GOA is a small regional airport, checkin can be chaotic with all the other cruise passengers doing the same thing. Is the time you quoted the checkin cut-off time? If you're connecting to a flight home, this is way too tight, I'd say 50-50.. Unless you're on fully refundable tickets, this is setting you up for a really bad experience. Bluenoser Posted July 7, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted July 7, 2019 Thanks for the replies everyone. We decided to play it safe and will fly home on September 21: GOA-FRA-LHR-EWR-YHZ YIKES!
maryann2 Posted July 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2019 I know it is probably too late for you to change now but did you look at flights out of Milan or Nice. Costa often has a shuttle to those airports.
Dancer Bob Posted July 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2019 I wouldn't recommend any same-day Transatlantic unless you have fully refundable tickets. No airport is really close. I haven't seen many empty seats recently, my last trip through FRA they were asking for volunteers, although I ended up getting on the flight. You can get non-stop MXP-YYZ and then presumably one connection to YHZ, but I prefer NCE as far less hassle for overnight. The bus transfer is also scenic. GOA is OK. EWR would be about my last choice, (I shudder to think of the paperwork if a bag misconnects) but I understand the B737 Max fiasco has especially affected YHZ, so you have to find seats where you can. Bluenoser Posted July 23, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted July 23, 2019 Hi maryann2: How would I find out if there are ship transfers to Milan Airport? I couldn't find anything on the Costa website nor could I reach anyone at Costa. Thanks

Thank you. I was pondering transfer options from Malpensa to board the ship in Savona. Looks like the Costa transfer could be 33 Euros. Will need to contact Costa to confirm. tenpin Posted July 25, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2019 (edited) When Costa had a printed catalogue there was a list of transfers offered, including Airports, Train & Bus Stations & even hotels including all the prices and pick up times. We once flew into Milan and because we were the only passengers they supplied a Limo both ways. Surely that it is not that difficult to put them on the web site clearly.
