I don't know about this year, but we were aboard last year in 2018.  The excursions were the usual Boston activities; nothing unique to Independence day.  We watched the fireworks from the Cambridge side of the Charles  river near Kendall Square, and made our own way back to the ship afterwards.

We were onboard last year.  We walked the Freedom Trail in the morning on our own but in the afternoon took a ship's tour to Harvard which also visited some of the important sites of the American Revolution.

Old North Church there was a special reading for Independence Day.

Onboard after dinner was a deck party to watch the fireworks over the Charles River and also the Theatre showed the celebrations on a large screen.
