TACoor Posted July 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2019 I just booked a Greek Isles cruise for next year and am looking into buying insurance. The TA recommends one with $100K medical and $1 million evacuation/repatriation. A less expensive plan has $10K medical and $100K evacuation. Without other international medical insurance, how important do you folks think it is to have the higher coverage?
TACoor Posted July 24, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted July 24, 2019 I might add that we are in our early 70's with miscellaneous pre-existing conditions but generally quite healthy and active.

You might want to contact www.TripInsuranceStore.com CALL them; don't rely on the online summaries; it can get complicated with the fine print otherwise. They are a broker, and sell a variety of policies from several vetted insurers. We learned about them here on CC in mid 2013, and have purchased quite a few policies. We've also had several claims with Travel Insured, and they were paid promptly, with no nonsense. TIS folks will help you get a policy that does not exclude pre-existing conditions, and they could probably help you decide the amount of medical coverage (or perhaps find a higher coverage for not much more, etc.). We also have annual policies from MedJetAssist. This is quite different (and does not replace regular insurance). IF you are admitted as an *inpatient* at least 150 miles from home, then YOU get to decide if you want to be medevac'd to the hospital of your choice in the USA, such as your home hospital or a specialty hospital. The advantage is that no beancounters get involved in the decision, and no local medical team is put in the awkward position of declaring themselves "no qualified" to care for you. They have per-trip and annual policies. We get the annual, partly because we take several vacations per year, but also because this way we are also covered for work trips and trips to friends/family, etc. RM
Rare aungrl Posted July 25, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2019 I’d second GeezerCouple’s advice to contact TripInsuranceStore, but to answer your question directly, IMO, you should go with the higher limits. The lower limits won’t be sufficient if you actually end up needing either of these components when you’re away.
