We did a resort for the day (booked through resort for a day dot com). It was not cheap, but it was all inclusive and the RIU Palace hotel is beautiful. My family wanted an all-inclusive beach day, so we thought this was the best day for us. The day pass was from 9 to 6, but we were there from about 10:30 to 3:30.

You will have plenty of time to do many things....you won't want to spend more than a couple hours in the sun, and shopping surely won't take more than a few hours, if that!

I've posted this to your replies before. I vacation in Aruba every year. We are beach people. We get to the beach before breakfast and often stay on the beach until sunset. Just about everyone at our resort does the same. If you wear sunscreen and sit most of the day in the shade, there is no reason to assume that everyone will only want to spend just a couple hours at the beach. For many people, the beach is their destination for the day.
