jangor Posted September 3, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2019 I am looking for organizations that give 90% or more of contributions to those in need. Many of us have had incredible vacations in the islands of the Bahamas and they need our help now!
58Piano Posted September 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2019 Samaritans Purse. It is run by Franklin Graham who is Billy Grahams son. They are equipped to help disasters all over the world. You can also do volunteer work.
Lindaru Posted September 3, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2019 All of the reliable news organizations that I have been following recommend donating directly to the Red Cross and warning to be careful of "scam" organizations that are popping up. Yes, they need our help.
paradiselivin1 Posted September 3, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2019 Agree about the Red Cross. We have Bahamians in our locale who are collecting here so that is a great choice for us. Only benefit of living in a hurricane zone ~ we understand the need to help each other through an are blessed when it doesn't hit us. Thanks to the OP for starting this post. Those folks are in dire straits.
KeepCalmBearOn Posted September 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2019 Atlantis Resort Paradise Island has a Go Fund Me page that says 100% of the Go Fund Me goes to relief. The Atlantis Resort was virtually untouched by the storm and is 100% open. You can see Paradise Island on their webcam (when it is light out). snowskier Posted September 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2019 The Red Cross needs donations for both the Bahamas and the United States as there have been significant expenses associated with the relief effort in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. If you are donating for the Bahamas make sure you donate to the Bahama Red Cross -- https://bahamasredcross.org/donate/

Lindaru Posted September 4, 2019 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2019 Just a bit ago I saw a conference given by Prime Minister Minnis of the Bahamas. In addition to the Bahamian Red Cross, he suggested NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency, Government Of The Bahamas). I wanted to post links, but they are horribly paragraphs long and it is probably better if you just search what I have here to get there.
Rare azbirdmom Posted September 4, 2019 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2019 I've donated to World Central Kitchen. They are already on the ground in Abaco feeding people. Here's a story from earlier today about them: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/food/wp/2019/09/03/jose-andres-and-world-central-kitchen-follow-blueprint-from-puerto-rico-to-feed-dorian-victims/
