Can you use a free specialty dining credit in any restaurant  (including non-reservation restaurants) ?

Whether or not you have a reservation is immaterial to using a SDP credit.  Any NCL restaurant should honor your SDP credit even if you walk up without a reservation.

Yes. The nonreserved restaurants are like Food Republic, sushi, pincho tapas, raw bar, Margaritaville. All other specialty restaurants require reservations to assure seating. 

 

 

Specialty Dining Packages are honored in the following specialty restaurants: American Diner, Cagney’s Steakhouse, Food Republic, Italian, Le Bistro, Los Lobos, Margaritaville at Sea, Moderno Churrascaria, Ocean Blue and Bayamo by Ocean Blue, Pincho Tapas Bar, Q Texas Smokehouse, Raw Bar, Sushi and Teppanyaki.

Guests may also choose to dine in other select restaurants, with the following per person upcharges when using their SDP meal:

• Cirque Dreams (Epic, Getaway) - Standard Seating $10 USD - Premium Seating $15 USD
• Supper Club Cabaret (Escape) - $18 USD
• Velvet (Breakaway) - $10 USD

are some reservations held back for non haven people once boarded? just envisioning getting the pack as a 'free' perk just a short time before sailing and having no/undesirable times available online. 

 

i havent booked my christmas cruise  yet but something tells me the SDPs are picked over as far as times

The reservations available online are not all of the tables, some are held back for booking on the ship.  I'm counting on this for my trip next month, really want to eat at Cagney's but there are no reservations available online for the time we want...

The online reservations are a minority of available spots. The majority open on embarkation day.

One entree and whatever apps and desserts you want, presumably.  I have no problem putting away large portions and I generally found I had enough with one of each...

Always best to read the T&Cs...... many people try to be very helpful but it still comes down to the written words of NCL.

I hope you have better luck than we had.  Maybe it was because we were a party of 7 in 4 separate cabins.  We tried to book using Platinum as soon as we boarded and we got Cagneys at 5:30 (only time available for our 12 day cruise).  La Cucina was totally booked for the entire cruise so we did not use our 2nd night.  We kept checking with dining reservations each day but there was never availability.  When we go b2b next August there will only be 2 of us so hopefully it will be better as we have our Platinum in addition to 3 night SDP.
