We will be in Palma de Mallorca on July 31 and I think we will take the train to Soller and then the tram to Port de Soller after based on your recommendation. Then most likely a taxi back to the ship. Does all of this sound feasible based on your extensive knowledge? Our ship arrives at 8:00 am. I’ve been in and out of this thread and wanted to make sure I had everything straight with all I have been reading about all of our various stops on the cruise. Thanks again. Did you take the taxi from Port de Soller back to the ship? If so, do you recommend and how much did it cost?

There is a taxi stand down near the beach in Port de Soller where we called a cab, waited about 10 minutes for a taxi. I can't remember the cost but it was very reasonable for the 4 of us.
Choozin Croozin Posted September 10, 2023 #479 Share Posted September 10, 2023 I am doing a tour with no frills excursion to VALLDEMOSSA & SOLLER that was organized by someone else on our ship. It is a long day so maybe we will just want to go back to the ship and collapse after, BUT is there any place to eat or relax that isn't touristy near the ship that we could visit. We will have missed our dinner time on the ship so might as well try some local food if possible. I apologize if this has been asked. I scrolled through this post but there are a lot of questions about the train and beach and with a search too, couldn't find anything. Thank you so much. As most non touristy restaurants don't open until 7pm , personally after along day on the tour you are doing I would return to the ship . The nicest is https://marchicapalma.com/ which over looks the port if you have time . Roger b

GrammieCruising Posted September 11, 2023 #483 Share Posted September 11, 2023 I appreciate this very informative post-so much useful information! Our ship ports 6:20 AM and departs 10 PM. Our dinner reservations are for 7:30 PM, though. I think we’re planning a morning walking tour on our own of Palma. Trying to figure out the afternoon-Is early October warm enough to go to a beach in the afternoon? If so, what is the closest best beach to the port? If not what is something else entertaining for the afternoon near Palma? It’s been 30+ years since we’ve been here and spent most of our time in Alcudia! Thanks! Early October should be fine and settled weather (no promises) sea still warm. You will be surprised how Palma has changed since you were last here,3/4 hours should be plenty of time to see all the major sites. My choice for your beach afternoon would be: https://balnearioilletas.com/en/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw0vWnBhC6ARIsAJpJM6fiHBhgK_pIhl5lAwwUYVpSQdX0CEDdAiZb2sRuJ2ThOrgleCpOiEIaAkXcEALw_wcB. Have lunch there good food and a small lovely beach is about 15 mins by taxi from Palma . If you look back though the info on this blog you might want to do the train to Soller first in the morning. Is this correct? Absolutely ALL beaches in Spain (mainland, Balearic islands, Canary islands, Ceuta and Melilla) are free of charge. All non-hosted visitors can cross concierge for free to go to the nearst beach (as fas as they must assure beach can be reached by any citizen and the only way is crossing their concierge). No one can ask you money for being in the beach and there aren't reserves beaches. Even if you are just in front of a hotel and they have set some facilities for their guests, you can stay there. It could be usual that you use their facilities ('cos they have set them in a public beach). They will say nothing. Even it is your decission to ask them a drink (and pay for it, obviously) as if you were a customer. If it is done by local administration it is legal (althought it is hard uncommon) This as a whole is true , except if you sit on beds belonging to a hotel or beach bar they can ask you to move from their bed and they can take it away . You can set out your rug and sit in the sand !!! Here in Mallorca the council have allowed beach concessions to various companies, and they are on public beaches and are roped off. You can sit on the sand but not on the beds . It is not true that you can pass though a hotel and sit on their beach, unless you find access by walking along the shore line, you definitely cannot use their facilities and they will not serve you if you ask for drinks if they don't want to. My advice is do not try any of the actions that alsarod has mooted as you might find yourself on the wrong end of any argument with a Spanish beach concession Edited September 14, 2023 by roger b spelling

Katie111 Posted September 22, 2023 #493 Share Posted September 22, 2023 Our cruise ship arrive at 8am and leaves at 4 on a Monday in October. Is that enough time to take the train to Soller and take the tram to Pt Soller and get back in time? Would prefer not to take a cab back due to costs. Or would we be better off just going into Palma or to a beach club if the weather is nice? It's our first cruise stop and first time in Spain so don't want to spend the whole day worried about missing the ship. Thanks!

Rare elmsliebev Posted September 22, 2023 #495 Share Posted September 22, 2023 Hi, we are in Palma for a long day (08.00 - 22.00) in October. We were last there almost 10 years ago and had a wonderful meal at Forn Saint Joan. I notice it's changed a bit, more modern although still sounds good. Is there anywhere in the old town that is quite traditional for a tapas lunch or early evening wander - things like chipirones, croquetas and good tortilla are particular favourites! Thanks. The train would get you back to Palma by 4pm ,since you have to be aboard at least 30 mins before sailing, this gives you 30mins . It is 20/25 mins by taxi to the port , well if you think you can leave a crowded train station and find a taxi in 5mins Good luck!! Also Alserod not living in Palma does not Know that know the Paseo Maritimo is a complete mess with road works . Please do not try it !!
