  1. could you share the company you used please? I'm a big fan of oysters any way!
  2. we're also on Regatta in October, I'm looking forward to it still. We were on Cunard's QE in 2022, read some dreadful reviews before we went, and we had a fabulous time. We'll keep the party going!
  3. we have cruised up the Seine to Rouen and docked overnight there with CMV. There's certainly plenty to see in Rouen and also in Honfleur. If you're into military history it's worth taking a trip around the D Day beaches. My great uncle is buried in Bayeux British Military Cemetary and Bayeux itself is a lovely town. Arromanches is another fascinating town. I wouldn't try and do Paris on your own in such a short time frame unless it's a must-see. We're lucky of course as we can go over whenever I need my Paris fix!
  4. I wore a white dress with an ice blue/turquiose pattern on it.
  5. I don't think it was you 😀 I'm sure I saw it on Cunard's own website. Maybe I had a dream ....
  6. I thought that too, sure I read it somewhere.
  7. I dropped Latin in 1975. It was that or Domestic Science 😄
  8. I was pleased to see oysters too. Many years ago when cycling on the Ile de Re me and a pal managed to wrongly order 3 dozen oysters rather than 1 dozen. The guy selling them was so impressed that we ate them all he gave us an oyster knife each 🤣. We'll definitely be booking Sir Sam's in June.
  9. I have all that, plus a couple of actual books plus the library onboard. Plus a further "emergency book" just in case of a zombie apocalypse or simialr. My husband laughs at me, but I don't care!
  10. We're in the UK and when we were in Malaga, Spain last year we had to try 3 different ATMs before we found one that didnt charge a fee for withdrawing money. It never used to be such a problem but it seems to be more common now.
  11. that's a shame We were on Azura in October and our steward brought body lotion and faceloths (and changed the facecloths daily). He had been working for P&O for 20+ years and was excellent. As far as the OP asked - I felt the menus in the MDR had definitely deteriorated on our Azura cruise in October. I'm a true omnivore but there wasn't the same amount of choice, and as for the cheese .... The veggie cottage pie was delicious though. I recently came across our menus from Oriana several years ago and the range of food offered was definitely more then. The ship was excellent and the staff very good. I wouldn't say it had gone "down market" but it didn't feel special any more. We have a Cunard cruise and an Oceania one booked this year but then we'll go land-based next year. Unless we spot a real bargain of course 🤣
  12. me too! We were on another line just before Covid (a line no longer with us) and one lunchtime a chef from south Indian was making dosas to order with sambal. Absolutely delicious. I had more than one ...
  13. and marinara to me (UK) is a pasta sauce with seafood! Just been having the "how much drink can we take on board" conversation with relatives we're travelling on QA with soon. We've decided on a couple of bottles of champane for on their balcony and they'll take some rum as well. Already got the premium alcohol free drinks package but I'm disappointed ginger ale might no longer be on it. I do hope the Sicilian lemon is still available.
  14. eek! That's huge. Fortunately I've just found out that the possible health condition (cardiac) has now been ruled out and I've been signed off, so I'm hoping there won't be too much of a jump - we're with Nationwide and haven't had to pay so far for certain health conditions.
  15. best answer! I will be trying it though.
  16. Look forward to reading about your experiences, have a great time.
  17. Interesting We don't go until October, but I'll be looking out for my information pack! Have a wonderful time.
  18. the latest one on "My Cunard" is showing as 14.45, which is probably the 14.55 train as t's so close. We're on the 13.30 train. Yes, we're thinking of the funicular in Bergen, then walking back down. We'll wait and see what the weather is like too.
  19. it's infuriating isn't it. I'm more concerned about it curtailing my traveling than the actual condition! I hope I find out soon.
  20. it's on my bucket list. I too love the idea of a campervan/motorhome but Himself won't go anywhere without a proper en suire (not one that needs emptying by us!) so I probably won't get to do it now. I'd be tempted to do both if at all possible - maybe London and surrounding area at the start of the cruise, then Scotland/Lake District at the end. We've decided that next year we'll probably stay in the UK (I have some potential health issues) and explore more of our own country.
  21. is this the cruise departing 23rd June? We're on that too and have booked the railway independently, the one after you I think. I noticed there was a Cunard trip planned for later than the one we have booked. We're also doing our own thing with the troll cars in Olden, much cheaper even allowing for hiring a taxi to get to the glacier. Booking your own does of course bring some risk but one we're currently prepared to take.
  22. we're on QA in June and have 2 formal nights. We will definitely be dressing up, black tie, posh frocks. I love seeing the kilts worn, I'm sure you're OH won't be out of place.
  23. your advice was very helpful for us when we were in Split last October. Very walkable, the Diocletian Palace is a must.
  24. agree with comments about Zadar, wonderful town, we would love to return there for a few days. Same with Trieste (48 hour travel man is about Trieste this week!) a really interesting city. We had a day in Malta between 2 cruises last year and did a wonderful tour with a local guy. A minibus of 14 of us, for the full day, taking us all around, to Mdina and other areas, a great lunch stop and a lovely guy. I think it worked out at 25euros each with a tip. As we were there twice, we also walked from the ship to the lift up to the gardens and the cannons. It's about a 10 minute stroll and the lift costs 1 euro (hold on to your tickets for the return trip)
  25. Palma Catherdral is beautiful, well worth a visit. You pay to go in, I think it was 10euro pp, with discount for over 65s. Palma town is a favourite of ours. Awayfrom the high rise hotels it's a lovely walkable compact city with some great tapas bars. You can get the little wooden train to Soller from Palma though you'd need to check out the times to see if it's doable depending on your port times.
