Grills Concierge and Butler Duties

OK - I got some great ideas for QG special requests. Now for a couple of other aspects of the QG experience - the butler and the concierge. (20 years ago, when we were upgraded to QG on the QE2, neither of these were available to us.

Butler.
We are not planning on hosting any parties in our cabin, and are unlikely to request hors d'ouvres so what would we use him for?  We'll send the laundry down likely own the second day. I normally just leave the bag in the cabin and if I see the Steward, I'll mention it. Is this a butler thing in QG?

Concierge.
This being a crossing, we won't need tender tickets and we've already done the behind the scenes tour. (And being in QG for only a week, I don't see us wanting dinner reservations for dining alternatives.) If our badges get demagnetized as happened repeatedly a year ago, can the Concierge fix them?  What about the sign up for wheelchair assistance when debarking? Can we "get on the list" from the concierge office, or is that still best done at the Pursers?

Usually we do PG, but just once we did QG,

When one of our badges was demagnetized, our butler took care of it.

when in PG, we took it to the concierge.

The butler brought us the lunch/ dinner menus every day mid morning.

on the last sea day, DH was not feeling well, so butler served us meals in the room. You can order of the daily QG menu, not just the regular room service menu.

we have used the concierge to get print out of our spending so far( to see how much OBC we still had). We have also used the concierge when in PG when we needed an earlier disembarkation time, or to get the tickets for self disembark.

the grills lounge is great for afternoon tea, or just to hang out and read.

The butler:

Will deliver early morning teas and coffees if pre ordered and set ther table.

Will deliver breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and/or dinner if requested.

Will refill the fridge with beers and mixers on a daily basis.

Will provide replacement spirits when nearly finished.

Will assist at cocktail parties and provide extra nibbles for guests.

Will deliver canapes in the afternoon.

Will ensure the room is in perfect condition (made up twice a day).

A couple of wee tips helps grease the wheels.

The concierge;

Will organise planetarium tickets

Book boxes (QV and QE).

Deliver invitations.

Arrange onward travel

Book tours.

On QM2, the Concierge Lounge is an excellent place to catch up on the various newspapers and have a coffee/tea and sticky bun.

One of our old regular butlers has since been promoted to Deck Manager and sends flowers or champagne when she discovers us on board. Even sends a Christmas card.

We had a butler in our QG suite on QE and it was the first time we have ever had a butler and to be honest we didnt know what to use him for or even that we wanted him to do anything. The menus for dinner were automatically bought to our suite and the same with canapes whether we were in the suite or not. The only thing he did is every morning we ordered tea, orange juice and croissants and he came and set the coffee table up with table cloth. Overall that is all he did and thing he had a very easy time with regards to our suite. We also came to the conclusion that in future we would not book a QG suite and book a PG suite instead because it wasnt really worth the extra money.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, they generally finish off the cabin servicing, re stock the fridge and the spirits etc,.

Just because the services of a butler are provided, it doesn't mean you have to use them as such. We rarely need the services of the Butler to actually buttle, but they are  there at the end of their pager, if needed and they're pretty good at organising food and drink for a  cabin party.

Concierge will be your first port of call for many things, including any little niggles you might come across. Easier than going down to reception.

The butler will also unpack and repack your clothes if you wish, and shine your shoes.

They will take the laundry for you and return it when it is finished. You will get a choice of two spirits, wines, etc from a pretty good list and they will replace them as you consume them. One voyage from LA to Hawaii on the QV, the butler served dinner for six in my suite, and that was quite impressive.

The concierge will provide you with customized stationary, and will print your boarding passes for your return flight if you are flying within 24 hours.

Go to the Concierge for anything you would otherwise request from the front desk/Purser's Office or the tour desk.  For instance our recent Concierge was very helpful in purchasing transportation for our disembarkation, resolving a World Club problem, resolving internet time issues, and removing some charges from our account.  I also heard her offering a lot of assistance to passengers who were struggling with the internet.
