Narrow boat girl Posted October 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Wondered if one of you expirienced cruiser could help with a question based on previous expiriences. Our daughter and son in law have 2 children 14 and 12, what is the most coneffective way to cruise, 2 cabins or one larger cabin, and what is the space like and bed configuration. Certainly one cabin will be cheaper than 2, especially if you get a cheap 3rd and 4th person deal, on P&O the best option is a de-luxe cabin and you do need the 3rd and 4th beds to be in the form of a sofa bed. But having made your choice of cruise any good TA will take you through the pricing options, which might have different deals for different cabin grades to ensure you get the best price, and you might find that 1 balcony or outside cabin plus a nearby inside cabin could be a reasonable option and give your more room. But you would need to have one adult booked in each cabin, even if your final sleeping arrangements were different. I’m sure you’ll get lots of advice, but in the meantime you should check out the main P&O website https://www.pocruises.com where here is an excellent offer at the moment where their children can travel for £1 each (in the same cabin as their parents). But you need to book by 11th October to take advantage of that offer, so don’t hang about. Les.

Maybe your best course of action would be to phone P&O directly and speak to them about your options. There is a free phone number on page 1 of the thread listings pages. amajaa Posted October 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Unfortunately the £1 for 3rd and 4th passengers are never in school holidays, not even winter half terms
Thejuggler Posted October 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2019 It comes dow to what P&O will sell you. I have played with their booking system and had interesting results. 2 adults and a 12 year old no cabins available, so I added another 12 year old and cabins were available. So an issue with 3 in a cabin? Change to 3 adults, no problem getting a cabin!
wowzz Posted October 4, 2019 #7 Share Posted October 4, 2019 I would support terrierjohn's suggestion. Talk to a TA that specialises in cruises and talk through the options with them.
cabin4three Posted October 4, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2019 How much time does your daughter and her family normally spend in their holiday room? If they like to relax in their own room for hours every day then I would suggest that they look at the larger cabins. If they are more like my family, the older the children are the less time we spend in the cabin We just use it as a base to sleep and change in. On a cruise ship there is so much for everyone to do. When our children were younger we had suites, much more room for the travel cot, then mini suite, then large balcony. This summer we tried an outside (no balcony) cabin for the first time. It was fine, we had pull down bed for kids and we didn't feel cramped. Have a look at you tube for video of cabins to give you a good idea of the differences. hansol1966 Posted October 5, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 5, 2019 The £1 offer on certain cruises is for 3rd and 4th children or adults on any cabin grade still available. We booked a 7 day cruise to the Fjords earlier this year on the £1 deal and booked a suite on Brittania equating to £1200 each, which was to me a very good deal.
