Travel from IAH to Galveston

HI,

I am looking at flying into IAH the Friday before my April 2020 cruise on a flight that will land around 2:50PM.  Most likely will use uber or lyft to get to Galveston so we can overnight in Galveston. I have heard that traffic in Houston is pretty bad to being with but will I be sitting in extra traffic with a flight that lands at that time- by me rush hour pretty much runs from 3 to 7pm so not sure if it is the same there. Thanks!

You might hit some extra traffic, yes. You probably won't get on the road until at least 3:30 PM. From there to downtown will be fine. From downtown towards Galveston you'll hit some traffic but you'll be ahead of the worst of it. (This assumes no major roadwork going on at the time. You never know.)

Howdy rdhed and welcome to Texas and Cruise Critic! emo22.gif

Thank you for your first post. 👍

Regarding major roadwork, there is ALWAYS some sort of construction happening on the Gulf Freeway (I-45) to Galveston. 😡

You might want to download the Houston TranStar app on your phone for real-time traffic conditions. https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/layers/  Their website also has a TxDOT Construction Schedule section http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/construction/ You can check when you land and then tell your uber or lyft driver what's going on traffic-wise. However, if they are a good driver, they probably will have already done it! emo3.gif

Hope this will help and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! emo35.gif
