pebbles1102 Posted October 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Are all of the mixed drinks on NCL served with paper straws? Is it best to bring my own plastic cup and straw for mixed drinks or are the cups and straws provided by the ship ok? Thanks, In Advance
shortykb Posted October 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Went on the Sun week of 10/5 and you only got a paper straw with frozen drinks. Depending where you order a drink at it will be in either glass or a plastic cup.

Rare graphicguy Posted October 17, 2019 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Actually, NCL’s paper straws were quite sturdy. I liked them.

smplybcause Posted October 17, 2019 #7 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Frozen drinks get you a paper straw. All other drinks are either nothing or possibly a wooden stir stick. I usually got the stir stick when my drink came with lime/lemon/pineapple/orange slice. The straws don't become useless as quick as others, but I personally find they add a taste to the drink that I don't prefer.
Motegi Posted October 17, 2019 #8 Share Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) The paper straws are only good if you're the type of person that likes to finish their drinks within 2-3 minutes. Any longer and the straw becomes soggy and unable to function. We were given paper straws in all of our frozen drinks onboard our NCL Sky cruise and at GSC earlier this month. They were less than ideal. Partway during the cruise we noticed that the onboard Starbucks had plastic straws available. Problem solved. thistimeplease Posted October 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 17, 2019 I brought a box of plastic disposable straws for my cruise. Worked out great and was able to give to other passengers who needed them. Yes I did make sure they ended up in the garbage.
TACoor Posted October 17, 2019 #10 Share Posted October 17, 2019 In addition to bringing our own metal straws, we bring insulated drink cups - keeps drinks colder and eliminates sweating drinks. Just order drinks and then pour them into our cups.
Rare PTC DAWG Posted October 17, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 17, 2019 The straw debate will never end.
Joken35 Posted October 17, 2019 #12 Share Posted October 17, 2019 I purchase the metal straws on Amazon. the paper straw did not last very long , Bringing plastic straws kinda defeats the goal. another thing you can do is drink faster before the straw falls apart.😁
GA Dave Posted October 17, 2019 #13 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Stainless steel straws. Work great. Straws

And you can even buy the metal ones at Walmart. Just don’t leave them in your drink when you’re done I did that once and it disappeared never to be seen again. The problem is caring them around after you finished your drink if you don’t buy another one immediately. Any suggestions?
valleyvillage Posted October 17, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 17, 2019 I wonder if some of the paper straws are better than others. I had a smoothie at the Meet and Greet and sipped it slowly during the event for about 20 minutes and it worked fine.

Blaming the straw for the straw ending up in the ocean sounds a lot like a similar debate going on.
