Barcelona violence

Anyone sailing out of Barcelona this week?  Wondering what the conditions are like considering all of the violent protests that have taken place this week.  Travelling there mid November staying in Catalonia area

Good question. Heading there just after New Year's. Hoping that agitators will be home for the holidays by that time --or in jail. Not those who are trying to protest peacefully but those wing-nut agitators who are making all the trouble.

 

In the meantime, I've been following the news both the international sources and the local sources.

 

According to the VO website:

Spain Update

We are working closely with local partners to monitor the current political climate in Spain. At this time, we have not altered any itineraries with scheduled time in Catalonia. The safety and security of our guests and crew is always our top priority. Should we deem any modifications necessary, guests and travel agents will be notified directly.

 

This is pretty much their standard wording for these situations. They will not make any public announcements about any changes.

 

When last minute changes were made to one of our itineraries, we got a phone call from Viking let us know. (When there were changes to our 2021 itinerary, we got an e-mail.)

Interesting.  Out itinerary WAS altered on the Jupiter.  We lost a tour day in Barcelona, and stopped in Valencia yesterday instead.

 

I am in Barcelona now, we docked this morning.  When we checked into the hotel, we were told the riots are getting smaller each day, and occur in the evening.

We are on our own.   Another couple we met on the cruise is meeting up with us for dinner tonight and they are on Viking’s extension.

Hope all continues to go well for all and you have a great time. Next month we’re doing the Viking pre extension to Madrid, then embarking in Barcelona.
