There's also some cautionary info in there for the first time. Wow! That was quite a tale. Thank you for sharing. Enough lemons! May the rest of your journey be sweet! Rare Btimmer Posted December 9, 2019 Author #177 Share Posted December 9, 2019 The lemon tree is alive and well. We are anchored off Devil's Island waiting out a severe rain squall. The Captain just announced we are waiting for a window of opportunity to be able to safely tender.

Rare Btimmer Posted December 9, 2019 Author #180 Share Posted December 9, 2019 The Captain just updated us that the staff Captain and hotel director and the port agent went ashore to assess the docking situation. So we continue to wait in the comfort of the ship in the ocean bar.

Floridiana Posted December 9, 2019 #187 Share Posted December 9, 2019 (edited) Devil's Islands French name is Iles du Salut. Devil's Island is just one of the three small islands. Only the largest one is open to visitors. By the way, the gold chain snatching; for all those on South American cruises, don't wear precious looking jewelry on shore. It's common sense not to show any kind of riches with so much poverty around. Take a small camera and put it away after each shot. Wehwalt Posted December 10, 2019 #189 Share Posted December 10, 2019 Personally, I'm just glad to be out of South America and on to ports which, except Jamaica, are safe, where most speak English, and the people are far more likely to help you out than try to rob you. Krazy Kruizers Posted December 10, 2019 #190 Share Posted December 10, 2019 Glad you made kit to Devil's Island. Are they still selling "certificates" on Devil's Island indicating that you were there?

Very few of the items in the hotel gift shop had Devil's Island imprinted on them. Some T-shirts did.
Rare Btimmer Posted December 10, 2019 Author #192 Share Posted December 10, 2019 We just concluded a coffee chat with the Hotel Director. He said the transit fee paid for the Amazon was $250,000 to the pilot agency. And the two pilots who grounded the ship are blacklisted with HAL. They are also re-assessing the ports particularly Belem. 4
Rare Btimmer Posted December 10, 2019 Author #193 Share Posted December 10, 2019 Here's the squall line yesterday a Royale Island at 4pm. Here's the real Devil's Island through the 'prison bars' of the Volendam. 1

America's Test Kitchen sounds alive and well. Smart move on your iPhone to make room for more photos. Thank you for bringing all of us along again. Rare Btimmer Posted December 12, 2019 Author #198 Share Posted December 12, 2019 We've been busy the last few days, so below are a few pictures from our day on Barbados which was wonderful. The lemon trees are totally shriveled. Written details will be in my blog which will be published by this evening my time. The rabbit looking creature is a Marra which is a large rodent. The alligator looking critter is a caiman. Thanks everyone for your comments as we travel this journey.
