Casino Credit on Australia / New Zealand cruises

I'm looking at purchasing some casino credit in US dollars (USD) before our December sailing.  The cruise ends in Australia.  If I cash out the night before, will I get the amount back in USD or AUD?  Also, If I cash out while we're in New Zealand, will that be given in USD or NZD?

We just had this situation on the Majestic last month.  Friends gave my hubby $50 USD as a casino credit.  We had to go to Passenger Services to get them to convert it to AUD and then it appeared on his folio.

Edited to add:  The gift was $50 USD.  The amount that appeared on his folio was $72.95 which was pretty much the exchange rate at the time of our cruise.  So they don't seem to use the same poor rates that they would if you exchanged currency.

Oddly Loyalty was converted from USD to AUD as well.  We get $75 USD and it was converted to $109.43 AUD automatically.  All other OBC (shareholder, FCC, booking promo, etc.) was "as is" so we lost a little on that exchange.

Thank you for the information.  I will go ahead and purchase the casino credits for my sailing. Hopefully there'll be some leftover cash winnings and we can use it to pay off any expenses on the cruise.

Well, I am no expert but here is my recent experience with prepaid excursion and prepaid (not gifted) casino credits for an upcoming cruise on the Majestic Princes RT from Sydney, Australia.

1. Online booking of Princess port excursions: Excursions were priced online in AUD. Made reservations and paid at checkout using US issued MC that converts currencies with no fees or surcharge. Went OK; excursions confirmed at AUD prices and CC online statement shows correct daily exchange rate into USD.

2. Thought I would try the same routine to purchase prepaid casino credits. Sold in units of 25/50/100 AUD; casino operates in AUD and final cash out is paid in cash or credited to shipboard account in AUD. Purchased 1 Unit of $25 online to test transaction conversion before committing to $1000 max per passenger purchase. Casino credit for $25 AUD appears on me Princess Travel Summary printout. Meanwhile my US issued CC posts a charge of $25 USD. Not fair as the AUD/USD conversion was not applied as it was in the excursion purchase in example No. 1, above. Called Princess and got confusing response about Australian Princess Inc. purchases for excursions and US Princess purchases in behalf of Carnival Corp/London (the casino operator); bottom line is you need to seek out passenger services onboard to adjust US/AUD conversion. Too much trouble so used online option to CANCEL my test $25 casino credit. Cancellation worked as expected; travel summary updated to remove casino credit and original cost of $25 USD refunded to my US credit card. I will just get some AUD cash to bring with me.

Hubby's $50 casino credit gifted to him did appear on the Travel Summary as $50 USD but didn't appear at all on our onboard folio.  As I mentioned above, we did have to go to Passenger Services to have them set it up on the account in AUD and it was converted at a reasonable rate.  No issues other than having to spend the short time to explain it to Passenger Services.
