Up to quite recently your P&O points were transferred to Princess but not vice versa but not sure if that has now been discontinued.

And yes you can transfer...status match... your loyalty points over to MSC from any one cruise line so you choose the cruise line who you have the highest points with

Princess stopped you transferring your P&O points  to them this last 12-18 months at least.

Princess points were counted by P&O until P&O changed their loyalty scheme to become the Peninsular club and Princess stopped counting P&O points in their loyalty scheme  about 2 or 3 years ago.

Many moons ago P&O accepted Princess Cruises undertaken at half the rate P&O cruises were tallied.  Then they stopped this altogether.  P&O UK have rescheduled their loyalty system at least four times since I started cruising with them. I think the reciprocal cruise history decision was more on a to do with toning down long standing P&O loyalty altogether because of P&O's major domination of UK cruising for many years and the reality that it is undesirable to have a huge majority of people on you ship at the top level loyalty and it being very hard for newcomers to catch up.  P&O then cancelled ancient cruise history and introduced "recency" riders to stay at the top tiers which would suit newcomers who move over to regular cruising.

Princess were previously a small player in UK cruising offering cruises ex-UK for very few months of the year.  I think there was an unwritten agreement with P&O UK for this situation.  More recently Princess has gone over to offering ex-UK cruises through a much longer season.  When this happened they seemed to want to exclude large numbers of long standing P&O UK cruisers who have not sailed with Princess from the top tier benefits boarding for their first Princess cruise.   To achieve this Princess announced the 17th December 2017 deadline for anyone who wanted to sail with Princess and carry points over.  P&O UK cruising history is fully taken into consideration but only if you have completed an actual Princess Cruise prior to the aforementioned deadline.
