Which side of the ship should we select for sailaway out of NYC to see the best sites and Statue of Liberty - port or starboard?  TIA.

Port for the City Skyline, starboard for the Statue of Liberty. After you pull away from pier, be on the port side as NYC passes by. After you pass the 1776 ft. tall Freedom Tower (former Twin Towers location)go to the other side of the ship as the S of L will be coming up on the right side. Watch for the iconic Staten Island Ferry’s passing by. Approx. 15 to 30 min after the Statue, be on a high deck as the ship passes under the Verrazano Bridge (connects Brooklyn & Staten Island). Longest suspension bridge in U.S.! Enjoy!

Then put on your winter coat and hat because the next 1.5 days will be freezing.   Same for the return 1.5 days of really cold weather even thru mid April..

I've sailed out of NYC and defiantly don't recommend it.    It might save you money in flights to Miami but you will have to embrace a freezing cold cruise.

We live in Pennsylvania so for NCL cruises NYC is the closest port for us. Sailed on the Gem end of April/beginning of May in 2017 and the last day it was FREEZING. Since then we have just been cruising with NCL out of Miami because the weeklong itineraries to Bahamas/Florida from NYC have gotten so overused and repetitive. Hoping the new Leonardo class ships are small enough to sail out of Baltimore with hopefully different ports of calls..
