Rebels82 Posted December 27, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2019 We will be at Almaplena in a few weeks and have another cruise booked, to Costa Maya, in a few months. We like quiet small groups of people, not a lot of kids, and nice clean beaches. What is your opinion of Pez Quadro? How is it similar/different from Almaplena? Thanks! Rare crewsweeper Posted December 27, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2019 Very different. It's the beach club for 40 Canones Hotel. it's toward the southern middle of the malecon. They appear to be trying to get everyone in on their AI option. Beaches could be a bit murkier than Almaplena, due to the seagrass which comes and goes. If you like Almaplena, maybe look into Maya Chan. Or Google Malecon21, a newer beach club without cruiseship excursions attached and toward the south end of the malecon thus away from the crowds which tend to thin out the further away from the light house you go. I haven’t been to Almaplena and it has been years since we stopped at Pez Quadro but I wouldn't consider them to be very similar. Almaplena is isolated and a distance from Mahahual, similar to Maya ChAn and Hayhu. Pez Quadro is along the malecon strip in Mahahual where there is one club after another - albeit some are livelier than others. Pez is an old, established beach club belonging to Hotel 40 Canones. It is popular with crew members. We were going to try it again earlier this month but they wanted the purchase of a day pass, like many of the beach clubs along there now, and we were wanting to move around, looking for somewhere new. However we saw a recommendation on here for new club, Malecon 21 and gave that a try instead. Malecon21, maybe somewhere for you to consider if you are wanting to stay in town - quieter, at the end of the malecon with space between loungers. While we were there we were talking to some locals about Hayhu and that also came highly recommended and is still on my to do list, when we have a long enough port day.
