St Petersburg Shore Excursions

We really enjoyed the services supplied by SPB, but there are other companies that enjoy high ratings. SPB also provides tours in other Baltic ports.

In St. Petersburg, we engaged an SPB two-day tour with some personal adaptations. Then we utilized a ship’s tour on the third day.

We also took a ship’s tour on the second evening in port as it provided views of St. Petersburg from some of the canals. That was very worthwhile.

Our Azamazing Evening entailed a performance at a local ballet theatre. There was also a White Night organized at that port.

It was a remarkable 3 days.

If you look at the details of the tours offered by SPB and similar companies they will give you an idea as to the highlights of a visit.

In June we used TJ Travel.  We had been to St Petersburg before so we wanted to make some adjustments to their itinerary. We did a private excursion with them, and they were fantastic.  We also took the fast train to Moscow for a day.  That was amazing.  If you decide to do that, upgrade your seats to business.  The chairs are more comfortable, it included breakfast on your way to Moscow and dinner on your return.  They provided a pillow and blanket (its an early departure from St Petersburg.)

We booked a private tour (just me and DH) with Marina Wilson Tours. Our guide  was wonderful and so was our driver, we customized our itinerary.  Highly recommend a private tour or very small group. We went to the Impressionist Museum in the Hermitage (not on most tours) and we were almost the only people there. Our tour guide had a masters in Art History and she added so much to our appreciation of the museum.

We used Alla Tours and had a wonderful 3 days, including seeing the Impressionist collection at the Hermitage as well as the Faberge Museum, which is not offered on some tours.   Fellow cruisers used SPB and TJ and were equally pleased.

Twice while on Azamara cruises we have used Dancing Bears and would recommend them. They adapted the itinerary to meet our requests. We went to the Soviet Museum and the balcony along addressed the people from , a local church during a service, local restaurants,  and had a day in Kronstadt. We also did the usual palaces andcPeyerhof and had a private boat trip around the city. No queues, driver waiting to transport us to the next stop, guides English was great and knowledge fantastic

Another satisfied TJ Tours customer.  We were on a cruise a few summers ago that was to overnight in St Petersburg.  We had booked a private two day tour. Due to weather, we missed port the first day.  TJ Tours were wonderful about communicating with us, and did everything possible to cram as much into the one day as they could.

I have used Alla twice and can highly recommend them... we saw and did a lot more than a ship’s tour!  Also don’t miss the Faberge Museum... as everyone is saying TJ and SPB are also highly rated... but a private or even small shared toured is worth it in St. Petersburg!

In 2016 we used Tailored Tours. The company was recommended by Rick Steves. The guide and driver were fantastic. We did their 2 day tour and it was fantastic. They added things that were not listed on their web site. No matter which company you use I would highly recommend a private tour rather than going with the ship. Not only will your tour be more personable but the cost will be significantly cheaper. Enjoy your visit--
