monakayk Posted January 28, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2020 What do you think about a cove balcony ? We are thinking of booking one on our B2B cruise & would love to hear folks opinions about it. Thanks in advance .
bury me at sea Posted January 28, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2020 I loved our cove balcony on the Breeze. It was slightly larger than a regular balcony and it was fun to be so close to the water. The biggest advantage to me was that we had at least partial shade nearly all day, every day, regardless of the direction we were sailing. Look at a deck plan for your ship to make sure you are not under the galley. Under the mid-ship MDR is great.
ilovetotravel1977 Posted January 28, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2020 What about folks who report on the noise from the engine and thrusters...? If you booked midship, would those things have any effect in terms of noise and vibrations?

Midship the galley above you is the only real noise issue. Cove balconies on the Dream class ships only go as far forward as the atrium. I've read glowing reports from people who booked there but I prefer further back, just forward of the mid-ship elevators.

evandbob Posted January 29, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2020 I'm not a fan of the coves. We prefer a mid ship balcony on a deck with cabins above and below it, and not near the elevators or stairs. This is a personal preference of ours, we enjoy a longer horizon view and avoid some of the salt that can accumulate on a cove. While some may enjoy being close to the water zipping by, others like us will feel more relaxed with a higher perspective. We cruise enough that we have tried most of the common cabin types up from insides to suites, and our cabin of choice now is a balcony mid ship Empress or Verandah deck. tigereye Posted January 29, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We loved our Cove on the Dream. We are trying a Lido Balcony this trip. Not sure if it will be as good?!
klfhngr Posted January 29, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We changed to a cove on the panorama for upcoming April cruise. Can't wait. We've done all other types of balconies, might as well give this a shot. Gonna take my fishing gear...
Florings Posted January 29, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We had a cove balcony booked for our October 2020 Breeze cruise. They offered us an upsell to a Deck 11 standard balcony and we took it. My husband said he'd rather be on deck 11 than deck 2.... It was only $38 charge to move.
jdcml Posted January 29, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We are normally mid ship and really enjoy them. Being so close to the water is hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it. Life boats above you, ocean view below you makes it more secluded. Noise has never been an issue for us. Headed back to I think the fourth cove this Saturday on the Magic! mcgore83 Posted January 29, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 29, 2020 I loved our cove on the Vista. Midship, very quiet, and private. I was not disappointed and would do it again in a heartbeat!
Rare Banditswife Posted January 29, 2020 #12 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We book coves when available. There does tend to be more salt spray. Love the easy access in port & to MDR & shows. We like to be between midship elevators & forward elevators. Just check for what is above you.
jsglow Posted January 29, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 29, 2020 My favorite kind of Balc.
jnb3382 Posted January 29, 2020 #14 Share Posted January 29, 2020 we had a cove balcony on the Horizon a few weeks ago, and it's my favorite out of all the rooms I've had cruising before. I absolutely LOVED being so close to the water, i found it very soothing and relaxing. We had amazing views of fish, waves, and pier runners! lol
tandemcruzr Posted January 29, 2020 #15 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We too, are Cove fans. We like being close to the water, having shade and watching the flying fish as we come into ports. And we choose cabins away from the galley . We usually get one below the forward part of the MDR.
tlw440 Posted January 29, 2020 #16 Share Posted January 29, 2020 We love the cove balconies, we have had a cove four times (every time we have sailed on the Dream class ship) and have another booked for our upcoming November cruise.

@homeinok Posted January 30, 2020 #21 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Love the cove in one next week. One thing anything you leave on the balcony at night ( bathing suits to dry) will be salty from the spray in the morning. Super close to the water!!! Having the dedicated pool and hot tubs for the Havana area is totally worth it. It's wasn't crowded. Edited January 30, 2020 by LuckyStar
