Disembarkation in Sydney

We will be sailing on the NCL Jewel in a few days. Trying to find out the earliest time we can expect to disembark on our last day. Do we have to go through customs since the cruise is starting in Auckland? Are there situations that can delay disembarkation?  Our goal for the day is to drop our luggage off at the Holiday Inn on George St., take a 1 hour train ride to a wildlife Park and be there by 11:30. Your thoughts please and thank you in advance

As long as your ship arrives on time, you shouldn't have a problem with your plans. Yes, you will go through customs when you arrive in Sydney.

I think disembarkation normally starts around 7 a.m. 

 

Extremely rarely there may be delays but that gives an idea. Your plan is realistic.

If your cruise is stopping at any other Australian ports prior to Sydney, you likely will go through immigration at that port.  As I recall, the process in Sydney was very fast (under 15 minutes).  You don't mention which wildlife park you're planning on visiting, but you might want to double-check that it's open.  Featherdale was supposedly closed a couple of weeks ago due to the wildfires.

Featherdale is at Doonside, which is nowhere near any of the large 'wildfires' (we call them Bushfires) that are in the news. Featherdale is in a residential suburb of Sydney, with houses on 2 sides, a park on a 3rd, the railway line between it and a small amount of bushland on the 4th. Saying that, if the small area of bushland was to 'catch' fire, this would be a 'small' fire, and nothing to really worry about when in the context of the large bushfires currently burning around NSW and Victoria.

The OP is sailing directly from NZ to Sydney by the itinerary of the NCL Jewel after visiting 6 NZ ports and Fjordland so they will go through customs in Sydney.

It may not be near them, but apparently the smoke was enough to endanger the animals, and it was closed the second week of January.

I think you may be confusing it with Mogo Zoo, which is on the South Coast, which did need to close, due to a fire coming up to its boundary. Which if you visit their website, says they are currently closed due to fire activities.

No, definitely Featherdale, because we were planning on taking the train there from Sydney.  Now, it's possible we got some bad intel, but we did hear they had closed due to the smoke.

I think you were given the wrong information. There is nothing on Featherdale's Facebook page about being closed during January. They are a sister park to Mogo Zoo and there is plenty of mentions of Mogo being closed due to fires on Featherdale's Facebook page.

Technically wrong, but easily confused. "Featherdale Wildlife" are also the owners of Mogo, and in news updates they were given by Featherdale Wildlife so it would easily be thought to be about Featherdale Wildlife park instead of Mogo.
