No, it's at least 70 miles from IAH to Galveston.

No, but there are shuttle services that stop at all of the Galveston hotels.

I've stayed at the Doubletree and another (can"t think of name) - took hotel shuttle to airport and then shuttle (booked ahead) from airport to pier and from pier back to airport.  Worked well.

Just to make clear, this poster is talking about staying at a hotel near the airport, not in Galveston, and taking the shuttle between that hotel and the airport and taking the shuttle (probably the one from the cruise line) from the airport to the ship and the same at return.

It is not clear !!!! And to quote  “any hotels in the Galveston area” is a broad statement by OP. It does not say  just Houston area. 

If you want to extend you’re vacation come on the Galveston . The island is a wonderful tourist  destination . 

 

If you want to crash for night and go straight to ship in morning stay on mainland . 
 

Either way , you have to pay for transfer to island and ship . One trip .
