dlwolf72 Posted February 7, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Is it true that on Coco Cay if you don’t have a drink package you’re charged a 20% tip and a 12% tax? So, a $10 drink has a $2 tip and a $1.20 tax added making it $13.20.

Dajbman22 Posted February 7, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2020 They will add the tip, but there is no tax. The only time you may be charged tax may be onboard the ship before departure on embarkation day.
kccrzr Posted February 7, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2020 I was at CocoCay 3 weeks ago. I still have my receipt for two Margaritas which were $22, to that was added a gratuity of $3.96 AND VAT of 2.64, so tax is being added on drinks at CocoCay.
regg1216 Posted February 7, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2020 In the Compass it said there would be a VAT tax on CocoCay
Ken at the beach Posted February 7, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2020 The Bahamas introduced this relatively recently.

cb at sea Posted February 8, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2020 Drink a bunch BEFORE you go to the island....then head back to the ship, if you need more!
later Posted February 9, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2020 (edited) Is the 12% tax correct and is the gratuity still 18%. So a $13 drink will be $16.90? Is there a VAT tax when the ship is in port at Nassau? Edited February 9, 2020 by later

The only place that I know of that makes them charge an extra tax on board when in port is Texas.

We were charged taxes on our drinks at both the Bamboo Room and the Sky Bar while in port at Port Canaveral. I don’t know if we paid VAT in Nassau as I don’t have any of those receipts. luv2sailAgain Posted February 9, 2020 #15 Share Posted February 9, 2020 That does it! Vacation ruined! Just kidding! Seriously, thanks for the post. Good to know because I like to know what to expect on a cruise and this might have surprised me.

You do pay taxes on drinks out of Florida until you are in international waters. Edited February 9, 2020 by later

It would be a la carte as the receipt would not show any of that with the package.
