But... You will most likely have to let the folks on the ship know. We turned Elite after one cruise then had 4 days in Barcelona. We only had 13 cruises at that point but had enough days for the change. When we boarded the TA home (14th cruise) we were given a Platinum card. I had to deal with the Captain's Circle Host and then Passenger Services to get the right card. Then I had to tell the Steward we were Elite (his forms showed us as Platinum) and hassle him for the mini bar. When I got home Princess still had us as Platinum on their system and the cruises we had booked for the future all showed us as Platinum. I had to have that changed during a phone call to Princess about something else when the rep said, "I see you are Platinum" or something of the sort. With Princess, one hand does not talk to the other.
