We are on a New England/Canada cruise with a stop in Newport.  How close to anything is the dock or will we need a taxi to get to the main part of town.

You are going to be tendered in and the tender docks right within walking distance of all the major parts of town. The mansions on Bellevue Ave are a little further out.

When you get off of the tender, walk toward your left, and stop at the visitors center where you can purchase mansions tickets and adjacent to this building you'll find the buses to take you around the area. Bowen's Wharf is nearby, too, lots fo shops and restaurants.

We are doing the New England/Canada cruise out of FT. Lauderdale on the HAL ship Zaandam. The Itinerary used to include Newport. However HAL changed from Newport to Port Canaveral. Does anyone know the reason why? I was looking forward to Newport as my Navy ship was home ported out of Newport. Would have liked to revisit.
