I just found out a couple days ago that my friend, who was to be in my room, said she was not going to be able to make the cruise.  I am going with the rest of my family, and I am in my 70's, still pretty active, and most  people think I am youngert, but would like to ask any of you ladies, if you are around my age, what type of activities on the ship would you check out,  by yourself?.  This is new for me, as I have always had someone to go along.  Yes, I can be with my family, but they may want to do something that I don't want to do, so I thought I would ask the ladies that are on CC, if your by yourself, what do you check out on the cruise?

I'm sure it's disappointing that your friend can't come with you, but it still sounds like you're in for a fun vacation.  Since your family will be there, you will have a familiar table of people to dine with in the MDR, and people to go to the shows with.  having the whole cabin to yourself is kind of a treat! You can go to bed when you want, sleep in as late as you want, and no waiting on a shower or the bathroom!!  Check the Fun Times for daily bingo, trivia or other social events you might be interested in, if there's nothing you want to do or your family has other plans, you can always find a quiet spot to curl up with a glass of wine and a good book.  Have fun, and enjoy your extra privacy.

I enjoy some of the trivia games. I have no problem doing them alone, but a lot of times, others will ask if they can join you. If they have any cooking demonstrations, those are fun, and a nice way to try new food.

If your ship has a Dive In movie, go and enjoy. You don’t need a group for that.

I don’t gamble, but that is easy to do alone.
I would suggest going through your FunTimes the night before, and highlight some of the things that might interest you.

If you have a smart phone, download the HUB app now. It will only show your countdown right now, but will have the daily activities once you board. Then you can mark activities you think you would enjoy as favorites, and it will keep track.

And do find time to just stand at the railing and look at the water and take a stroll around the ship especially the stern watching the wake of the ship.

I travel solo and I find people will make eye contact and makes it easy to start conversations. And deck staff as well as crew appreciate conversations too.

Enjoy the privacy of your room and think twice of letting family members moving in too.

I like dance classes even if I'm not terrific, for exercise.

I take a book up to the buffet and often meet other people that we run into and make new cruise friends.

This is the time for those foods you want to try, the salad in the sun bathing area, forget what it was called on vista, dont miss the bbq, or tastings.

I book a excursion thru carnival as for solo, you wind up with a big group. Thru private excursions sometimes you need 2 people, this is the time for those ruins no one wanted to see last time.

I like solo so I can do what I want, not try to please someone else.

I've even done the buffet for dinner, instead of dining room so I could get pictures of the setting sun.

The best thing is doing whatever you wanted. Sit in the front row at the shows because last time your friend hated to be so far forward.

I recently cruised with 7 other ladies and we are in your age group.  We each had our own stateroom and it was wonderful.  We usually paired up or did things in small groups but on occasion I went out on my own.  Some of the things I enjoyed by myself were:  roulette in the casino, sitting and listening to the different music venues, shopping for myself, people watching, sitting in the hot tub.  I didn't actually go alone but would not mind going to a show by myself or perhaps taking part in a trivia game.  Enjoy your cruise - there's nothing  like having your own private cabin.

I often sail with my 77 year old mother and while I love the casino, she has no interest.  In the evening, she very often sits in the Centrum area (depending on the ship) or where ever there is music playing, or she will take an evening stroll around the top deck.  During the day, she enjoys the trivia games or sometime she has found a game of LRC or Mexican Train Dominoes.  We do many things together but we each enjoy our own things as well.  We always come together for dinner, and it is fun to catch up on what the other did all day.  Family is great, but alone time has its benefits too!  🙂

Thank you ALL for your responses.  This is really helping me deal with the situation that I will soon find myself in.  I have cruised for over 25 years, and met many people doing solo, never dreaming I would be doing it for a while, so now,  it looks like I will find out what it is all about. 🙂

I've gone cruising many times on my own, and can attest to the fact that I meet more people that way than I do when I'm traveling with a group.  Much like some of the others have responded, I also enjoy playing bingo, making a bit of a donation to the casino now and again, playing trivia, or simply just hanging out reading or working on a knitting or crochet project of some kind.

There's a wonderful kind of freedom to traveling solo.  You can wake up when you like, stay out late or turn in early.  Eat when and where you like.  And all of this without having to consult anyone else other than your own preferences at the time.  Have a great cruise!  ❤️

What fun you get to do whatever you want!!!  While I always travel with my family they like to sleep late, I don't, hubs like the casino and spa, I don't.

I'm happy to sit by the pool and make new friends.  There's usually people like me happy to talk to anyone.  I'll check out whatever re activities interest me.  Walk around the ship, visit the gym.  I discovered once the treadmills often look out over the ocean so it's kind of a neat way to kill time on an at sea day
