Computers on the Epic

Are there computers available for use on the Epic.  I sail this weekend and may need to work a bit while on board and was hoping to not have to bring my laptop.

The Epic does have an internet cafe but just be forewarned that the PC's are really bare bones machines.

Yep, 4 computers in the Internet Cafe which is located in the Library.

To be clear, the computers on board a ship are used for internet access only.  You cannot use them to do anything else.  You pay for that internet access by the minute (either billed per minute or as part of a package of minutes that you have previously purchased).  Basically all you can do is browse websites.  You can access your email if your email provider has a website interface.

They browse the internet at very slow speed. Think back to “dial up” days.

Only if you can do your work using the default browser at one of the iCafe's "working" PC terminals ... on our last 2 NCL cruises (Dawn & Gem) - 1 out of 4 stations was offline, not working.  Just for fun - no luck attempting to boot into my own portable OS via USB port, either Linux Mint or Chromium to remotely access *.edu based cloud server (as that would bypass their pre-configured Windows OS, hopefully for possibly better results/speed, etc. - NOT) 

 

Not specific to the Epic, but it seemed they are all similarly configured, Acer hardware stripped down with minimal apps.  It is somewhat comparable to running a Chromebook or Linux Mint OS.  Agreed, satellite WiFi onboard NCL is sluggish.
