Travelling2Some Posted March 4, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2020 Apparently, NCL announced a new policy stating that "Final payment for all June and July voyages will not be due until 90 days prior to sailing". We are booked on the June 7th sailing of the Escape. Our final payment date was February 8th and I paid the balance on February 4th. I am wondering if I could now cancel for a full refund since the new policy has extended the final payment date until March 9th. What do you think? luv2c00k Posted March 4, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2020 Call NCL - no one here can give you any information on what they will do.

Well, that would depend on whether anyone here has done it yet or not. Many sailings are effected so there may well be people on CC who know. I'm not calling NCL yet because I've not made up my mind if I want to cancel. My post was also intended to inform others who may not even be aware that they might have an option they don't know about. To the best of my knowledge NCL has not let passengers booked for their June and July sailings know that they have altered their policy.
babydaryl24 Posted March 4, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2020 This policy is really disappointing for those who sail Mid-May 😞

Its also disappointing that we have to find out on Cruise Critic rather than NCL letting affected passengers know that they may have more choices than they know about.
Always Cruising Posted March 4, 2020 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2020 I cancelled my June 6 cruise yesterday, and was assured I'd get the full amount credited to my c card. But I was charged $220 somehow, and am still trying to get it resolved. But yes, even after final payment, with these new dates, you can cancel your cruise. But check that there are no hidden cancellation fees. Not sure about insurance refund, though - because I hadn't purchased it

If you used a travel agent I've heard that some of them do have their own cancellation fees to watch out for. I've never used one myself though. annedar Posted March 4, 2020 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2020 Definitely call. I had them redo my June 21st booking yesterday. They applied new pricing and new perks.

zeppgirl Posted March 4, 2020 #14 Share Posted March 4, 2020 that does not make sense because all of us going during this time (June anyway) would have already paid. We paid our final deposit almost a month ago for our June cruise. Would have been nice to have the extra time to wait, but I guess at this point, we either go or have them cancel the cruise. Going out of Italy...

Going out of Italy... Re-read the original post. Yes, we have made final payment BUT the point is that NCL has now changed the rules. Those of us who have made final payment NOW find ourselves retroactively in the position of actually being once again within the "cancellation without penalty" period because that period has been extended. It's a unique situation that I don't believe has ever happened before.

So we can transfer the reservation. At this point I will probably keep things as is since we already booked our flights and used points for others. Plus we did Haven and got a good deal. It would definitely cost us more to change. That being said, I will see what my options are. If things head in a bad direction, it might make sense to take the loss. I had booked with CAS (Casinos at Sea), so didn't use a travel agent. Still working on the refund of $220. The CAS agent agreed that I shouldn't be charged that amount, but the wheels grind slowly....

I have noticed the prices have been falling for balcony's on the cruise, not enough to make up for 7 peoples airfare, but dropping, which probably mean lots of vacancy's. amyh13 Posted March 4, 2020 #19 Share Posted March 4, 2020 So I have a friend booked on the POA for July. Final payment is next week. I told her about this thread. She reached out to her travel agent and she agreed that she could delay final payment for 30 more days. However she also sent this. From NCL: To further clarify, we are extending the final payment date, but we are not waiving penalties if your Guest chooses to cancel. Any cancellations after the original final payment date would be subject to our standard cancellation policy. This doesn't make sense to me. She is in a suite. Does that make a difference? Ms BumbleBee Posted March 5, 2020 #20 Share Posted March 5, 2020 My company is now clamping down on all business travel and encouraging personal travel to be reviewed. I am concerned it will become more than encouraging and I did not get the cancel for any reason insurance but I also am not going to lose my job over a cruise. Hoping things calm down in the next few months
Mikiejag Posted March 5, 2020 #21 Share Posted March 5, 2020 I am not too worried right now, but would love a near empty ship and maybe a sweet upgrade to any newly emptied suites or Havens....LOL But on another note, I charged the cruise for 8, collected cash and then paid the card off. I was just thinking what a mess I would be in to have all the credit go back to the card and try to get them to cut me a check or personally have to come up with 8k to pay people back...
