El turista Posted March 16, 2020 #53 Share Posted March 16, 2020 Captain just said "no news" and no further updates until tomorrow morning. This is incredibly frustrating.
Covepointcruiser Posted March 16, 2020 #54 Share Posted March 16, 2020 Just think, you could be locked down in the U.S. without folks waiting on you. I would trade places with you if I could. It’s better to stay on the ship until:the airports have calmed. Once you get past the screening you will still have to self quarantine for two weeks. If anyone has access to your home you should have them get you a two week stock of provisions. You are living the good life right now, enjoy it while you can.
Beachin2 Posted March 16, 2020 Author #55 Share Posted March 16, 2020 Running out of small stuff. High end booze, lemons, etc. Said 2 days ago my personal theory is we dock here in ChilE tomorrow for provision and fuel only (no close exchange of cooties), then slow sail to San Diego/LA. By the time we arrive, quarantine time is over. Gives X time to arrange flights /charters. Gets the ship to the right continent and can get all the passengers home. However, if someone sneezes, we are truly screwed!
Go9ersjrh Posted March 16, 2020 #56 Share Posted March 16, 2020 Beachin2 - I think you are right. I'm sure Celebrity really wants to get passengers off the ship. Right now they don't have any potential cases on board and they want to keep it that way. There is always a chance that someone will get sick and then it's quarantine for everyone. I'm just hoping they can made a decision soon and implement the plan.

Go9ersjrh Posted March 17, 2020 #60 Share Posted March 17, 2020 If you get to San Diego / LA, I can pick up my parents at the port. They can stay with us until they can fly back to their home.

Head north and let folks off in their own countries. The ship needs to end up in America and Canada anyway... It's not going anywhere soon. Next cruise (Pacific NW) already cancelled and then Canada to Hawaii but Canada ports closed. So why not a very leisurely cruise back to the USA? So long as no one has Covid-19, basically an isolation pod 😃 with no need for "social distancing". 1
Gimpy McFarlan Posted March 17, 2020 #62 Share Posted March 17, 2020 While I can see the logic (and personal benefit) of keeping us onboard for a slow cruise to prove no Covid-19 exists I’m not sure Celebrity wants that liability. If an illness (would not even need to be Covid) were to occur onboard the chances of it spreading fast are high. What if a crew member catches something while refueling, moving supplies onboard or off boarding trash? People were kept on Princess and it did not end well for a lot of passengers. Fair comment and completely agree with that scenario - quarantine on a ship is what we definitely want to avoid.
ashstreet Posted March 17, 2020 #64 Share Posted March 17, 2020 From ashstreet: Whenever I hear the phrase "life is beautiful" I think of Captain Leo. If he is the same captain that was on the Eclipse cruise I took in S America in 2019, he is indeed a beautiful person....even though the situation is of course far from beautiful. All the best to the entire staff and passengers. ashstreet

paphoslady Posted March 17, 2020 #66 Share Posted March 17, 2020 I am on the ship. Yes they are short on some things but the whole crew are doing a fantastic job. The chefs are giving us some great food. Captain Leo is great.
Margarita Jane Posted March 17, 2020 #67 Share Posted March 17, 2020 Celebrity did not take care of those us us planning to board in San Antonio. I STILL have not received confirmation that the 3/15 cruise was cancelled. We made my our travel arrangements from Santiago to USA. Sorry, I should be more sympathetic to those onboard. It is just a horrible situation. Those onboard have no control over their situation. While I’m upset with Celebrity, those onboard still are relying on whatever is being told to them for their arrangements. I wish those onboard are able to get off the ship, soon, and forward arrangements, home. While I feel abandoned, those on board are hostage. I am sorry. What should have been a wonderful trip will be remembered in a whole different way. Unfortunately, you will remember not being able to dock intead of the wonderful parts along the way. All the best to the cruise hostages.
Arubamoose Posted March 17, 2020 #68 Share Posted March 17, 2020 Am on board. Monday evening with no update until tomorrow morning. Captain Leo slightly changed course so casino is open tonight. We were on the B2b to go to San Diego so no big whoop to me. Not scheduled to be home until April 1 anyway. Sea days don’t bother me. Plenty to do - swim, gym, books, cards and other unmentionables (naps!!) I just hope we get going somewhere that will take us. Frustrated that he has wasted 2 days circling around where he could have booked it to Panama or San Diego instead of screwing around with the Chilean government. But he’s only doing what corporate says to do.
El turista Posted March 17, 2020 #69 Share Posted March 17, 2020 This person (the girlfriend of a crew member) is saying that the Ministry of Health in Chile does not even want a controlled debarkation nor want the ship to refuel or replenish anywhere in Chile. Sounds worse than what Celebrity is telling us.
El turista Posted March 17, 2020 #70 Share Posted March 17, 2020 Major update: San Antonio gave a final decision to not allow the ship to dock. Heading to Valparaiso to refuel and receive provisions and Chileans will be allowed to debark. Then we go to San Diego since we secured berthing there and will arrive in around 10 days.

Almost the same scenario I proposed earlier. Will be unpacking (again) in the morning. Please send lemons and restock the bars please, basically looking at @11 or 12 sea days - which I'm 1,000% OK with. Keep your sense of humor everyone.

I hope Valparaiso and Chile don't change their minds and you are able to re-supply and re-fuel for the trip to San Diego.
