FIFE1 Posted May 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2020 Found this on Linked in TUI Group has said it expects to restart cruise service this summer, but with less occupancy. The company, which oversees the TUI, Hapag-Lloyd and Marella brands, said the changes will start at boarding, with new health questionnaires. screening preboarding and staggered boarding groups. The company also said it plans to start with less than 1,000 guests on each ship until August 31, 2020, meaning TUI's big ships, with capacity for just under 3,000 guests, would be sailing at approximately one third occupancy, allowing for much more distance in public areas. Other changes include the elimination of self-service food. Public venues will also be limited to one third of their capacity. Only 10 children will be allowed in the Kids’ Club aboard, the company said. In addition, the ships will operate at what TUI called OPP-3 (Outbreak Prevention Plan Level 3), meaning constant cleaning of touched services, every 30 minutes or less. The company said it expects to have COVID-19 testing capabilities aboard with additional medical staff. The cruise line will work closely with ports to develop joint procedures to handle any possible COVID-19 cases, according to a statement
Rare Brummijam Posted May 13, 2020 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) If they are thinking of running with 1/3 capacity does this mean prices will rise to cover the cost of the missing 2/3 of passengers and if so would customers be prepared to potentially pay three times current prices.😳 Edited May 13, 2020 by Brummijam
FIFE1 Posted May 13, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted May 13, 2020 I am Struggling with the following. 1. If they currently have say more than 1/3rd of capacity booked on each ship. Who is going to be allowed to go? 2. If only 1/3rd of venue capacity can be used how does this work, you can't Que I would assume? 3. Who counts how many people around the pool? 4. If I had kids of kids club age still and booked an paid a lot of money only to be told 10 kids per session, they won't ahve enough capacity. We will just have to wait and see what Marella advise everyone
Rare Jim The Scot Posted May 13, 2020 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Fife 1st question is a good one They would also need to implement a one way system in the corridors. One out,one in at toilets etc Difficult to socialise under the restrictions which is a important part of cruising for us.Kinda glad our cruise was cancelled this year and next one isn,t until july next year when hopefully things will be better Edited May 13, 2020 by Jim The Scot
howmuch! Posted May 13, 2020 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2020 Marella ships max out at approx 2000 passengers, so even less passenger availability.
WeeCountyMan Posted May 14, 2020 #6 Share Posted May 14, 2020 The abscence of buffet food will have the waiter staff run off their feet for a start. Then there's social distancing issues around the ship - for example, corridors will be a problem, likewise access to and from toilets. There is another consideration - if the government impose self isolation after return flights.................who fancies a fortnight in the pokey at home ? Then there's the doomsday scenario if even just one case of the virus is identified onboard. I would not want to expose any of my family to any potential risk(s). FIFE1 Posted May 22, 2020 Author #16 Share Posted May 22, 2020 Not least the 14 days quarantine (if this stays in place post the end of June). I see the European body for air travel have issued guideline CAA here expected to follow with similar. 1. Min hand luggage 2. All planes disinfected load/unload. 3. No food, drink or duty free sold on board. 4. At security, boarding gates and at planes. 1.5 metres safe distancing rules GEEEZZZZ no danger at Corfu airport 5. See Jet 2 now pushed back start till July. We will have to await TUI/Marella
Rare Jim The Scot Posted May 22, 2020 #17 Share Posted May 22, 2020 (edited) Hi Fife, Am I missng something? Pensioncruiser Posted May 31, 2020 #21 Share Posted May 31, 2020 Think you may be right, but to be honest my feelings are that Tui would be better concentrating on cruises from UK ports, no way will we be flying anywhere in the forceable future but could consider a cruise, in a bubble, from the UK. Just a thought. 🙄

I see Saga have their new ship offering 7 nighters from Dover next year. Car transfers included. Six hundred passengers and 100 solo cabins, all cabins with balconies. cost a small fortune though.
