2020 Cruises from NY gone?

I'm considering the FCC, although after Voyager's 15% discount plus several hundred in OBC, I don't think we'll get a deal anywhere equal. Does anyone know if that FCC can be applied to a booking after a new booking/deposit is made? It seems like that could be, but I've never had FCC with MSC. As we booked two (back-to-back), I wonder if we'll get two FCC's. If so, could they both be used on one cruise? Of course, I can call and ask but was hoping to get word from those who know right here.

Interesting that for US all fares and deposits will automatically go to a FCC and you cannot request a refund until June 19th (further instructions to come).

That must be for just cruises cancelled by MSC. When I spoke with my casino rep the day Canada announced they were accepting cruise ships, a few days before MSC’s official announcement, I was about to get a credit back as opposed to FCC.

For anyone who booked through msccruises.ca, they are only giving FCC (125%) on either the full payment or on the deposit.  No cash refunds until after Dec 31, 2021.

With regard to FCC, those only paid a deposit are entitled to a 25% FCC of total cruise fare....which seems generous to me. This is confirmed in the following extract, taken directly from the MSC website:

If your cruise was booked  through MSC Cruises USA office, and you have paid in full, you will automatically receive a 125% Future Cruise Credit (sent to guest or travel advisor email on file). For those guests who are not paid in full, but only paid a deposit will receive a Future Cruise Credit equal to 100% of your deposit + 25% of total cruise fare (excluding Gov. taxes & fees). Should you decide you would like to request a refund, you may do so online starting June 19....

Most of these Meraviglia cruises are still outside of final payment for many people so they can cancel according to their country's rules, I believe that is what you did.  Even by June 19th there will be people outside of final payment with deposits only.  Since MSC has now officially cancelled Meraviglia September 5th up to November 3rd they are offering the extra 25% FCC on whatever people have paid for anyone that wants to make another booking.  Without getting into the overall refund inequities between regions, that makes it a little more fair for those with non-refundable deposits.

I'm surprised they didn't try to make something work, they still had possibilities without Canada ports, and the repo to Miami had no problem.  Maybe a change from Canadian to Bermuda sailing was too big to try to push on customers, perhaps because not enough of those people booked would have the option to cancel.  Under the old Terms that wouldn't be a problem since a major itinerary change was just cause for a customer cancellation and refund, now it's not.  I still see Meraviglia's August Northern European sailings.  I could see her make the TA to Europe empty but think they must be planning something for her return to the US.  I'm watching for some last minute itineraries to pop up before her return to Miami.

Most of the Canadian/NE sailings are also 10-11 days.  Bermuda is typically a 7 day cruise with 3 days in Bermuda.  Bermuda isn't that big...spending 4-5 days there would be overkill.  Would have needed another port or 2.  Considering it was like 4 cruises, probably easier to just cancel and put the Meraviglia elsewhere.

There are interesting nine & ten night Divina 2021 NYC sailing to Bermuda.  There are many possibilities by still stopping at US Northeast ports and using Bermuda and/or Ocean Cay as the foreign port.

Look at the cruises out of NYC next year. They are doing a 10 night NYC -> Bermuda -> Bahamas -> NYC and also 9 night NYC -> Maine -> Bermuda -> NYC.

Unfortunately they aren't doing anything to Quebec City next year.

I actually booked the Divina Bermuda/Boston/Maine cruise. We love Boston (have a young son and their aquarium is the best we have ever seen) and Bermuda is our favorite island. So when I saw the unique itinerary of going north to come back south, was sold.

Now let’s just hope there is a vaccine by then and no re-outbreak next year

I wish that would be true.  If it is, that is very generous.  However, in the Canadian email, it just says 125% of the money paid.  It doesn't mention deposits only.  Here's the wording (btw we hadn't made final payment!):

As you have made the final payment on your cruise, we will automatically provide you a 125% Future Cruise Credit for the amount you’ve paid to date to be used toward a sailing on or before December 31, 2021. This is good toward a future cruise of your choice – including any ship and any itinerary in MSC Cruises’ fleet. The Future Cruise Credit will be directly sent to the email we have on file for your reservation by Friday, June 26, so there is no need for you to do anything.

I'll wait until June 26 and see what we get.  Hopefully it will be the same as the US.

That's the one I booked.  Based on the enthusiasm on this thread, I'm glad I booked early.

I right with you in "the hoping".

If you booked that cruise early look at your port fees/taxes.  For the first month or two that sailing was listed they were charging over $400pp, now it's $126pp.  It can be corrected to the new amount without re-booking, but takes someone experienced so might take a few attempts.

Ate, when we first booked that cruise it was going to Bar Harbor. Somewhere along the way it was changed to Portland. I thought at the time that since Bar Harbor is a tender port, it’s fees were more expensive and then when it changed to Portland, the port fees were cheaper so ours went from the 400 to 126. I didn’t have to do anything to get it changed and it was when I was having trouble with the website and was changed when I was able to sign in.

The port fees were corrected for new bookings sometime in mid March and the itinerary change was announced April 2nd, so I'm not really believing the the switching to Portland reduced port fees by $275 per person.  I've also been through the same thing on other MSC sailings when I booked early and the itinerary had not changed.  There have been other threads here on Cruise Critic discussing MSC's loose policy regarding setting the port fees and taxes, I've learned to keep a watch.

I just booked yesterday.  The port fees are $126/pp.

At that time I had only sailed once (October 2019) on MSC when I made my September booking and was unaware of their issues with port fees on cc forums. I just thought it made sense to me because of no experience with them. I have had 4 booked at that time and now three have been canceled. Thanks for the explanation.
