Cancelled Mardi Gras - Do I have to make full payment to keep $600 OBC

I think I know the answer to this, but I wanted to check the collective wisdom of CC.  Was booked on the 12/26/2020 New Years Cruise on Mardi Gras.  I received the cancellation email this morning offering 100% refund or 100% future cruise credit and $600 OBC.  To date I have only paid a $375 deposit. The remaining fare of $3,200 to pay in full, was not due till September.  If I elect to stay with Future cruise credit to keep the extra incentive onboard credit of $600, will they charge me the remaining balance ($3,200) in September? Or will there be no charges and my $375 deposit will be the future cruise credit plus I get the $600 OBC.  I am assuming they will charge the $3,200 in Sept. in order for me to get the $600.

Thoughts?

Since Carnival cancelled prior to final payment date, you shouldn't have to pay anything more toward your cancelled cruise and should get the 600 OBC when you rebook.

It's possible, though, you might have to pay a new deposit when you rebook.  Your 375. deposit will eventually transfer as payment toward your new cruise but I'm just not sure it can be used as the new deposit.

Others will chime in soon I'm sure.

^ This.

The $375 will transfer as future cruise credit.  You will need to make a new deposit for the new cruise.  The $600 OBC will eventually catch up.

Based on our experience this year.

When my Oct 31 Mardi Gras was cancelled, we rebooked for Feb 6th 2021 same ship, we had paid about $150 on it after our $198.00 deposit (casino rate) and we did not have to pay any more at the time of the rebook and we goth the $200 OBC and a 25% cruise credit.

Good to know that we can move to a new date without making another deposit. We had two cabins booked on the 12/26 Mardi Gras and are trying to decide what to do now. We also had our 8/29 cruise on the Magic canceled a couple weeks ago. It was paid in full and we were going to transfer that to the Mardi Gras cruise, so now we need to decide what to do with that too. What a mess this has become. This is our fourth cruise canceled so far; we still have two Princess cruises scheduled for Feb. & March 2021 from Australia (to replace two that were canceled this Spring) and don't know whether those have any chance. I know the smart thing to do is wait until they are actually cruising again before making more reservations that will likely be canceled, but I'm a planner and usually have things booked far in advance.

Update: I rebooked our canceled Mardi Gras cruise today to 5/29/21. My PVP said we could not book the new departure without making a new deposit. AFTER the new reservation was made, the money from the canceled cruise was credited to the balance of the account and the $600 OBC added. Final result:  Since we rebooked 2 cabins Carnival now has $500 more of my money. I am not overly upset IF the cruise goes on schedule, but hate to have more money tied up if they still aren't cruising by next May (which will probably mean the whole corp. goes bust).

It was explained by my PVP, I may not have had to put down a new deposit if I had paid more or paid off my cruise.  They could've used the theoretical "Taxes and fees" portion to pay my new deposit as that was refundable money and not "cruise fare". Since I only had a deposit on the cancelled cruise, I had to make a new deposit, just as you did.

Kiss your $600 OBC good by. OBC is for that cruise ONLY!. Once cancelled, by you or Carnival, it does not go towards you next cruise. Whatever offer is with the next cruise you book, that is what you will receive. FCC is only the base price of the cruise, plus any additional offers they give, if they cancel it. The tax and port are refunded as are anything else you may have purchased.
